How long does your battery last?

I have been using my phone a lot this past week ever since I got SwiftKey. On top of that, I always have my mapping app and music player on when I am driving which drains the battery a lot. My daily commute to and from work itself will drain about 60% of the battery. If I use it a lot on top of that during the day, I have to charge it during the day or use my car charger. If I use it lightly other than driving, I can get away without charging during the day and have about 25% left before I go to bed.

my battery life is a joke. i charge it every night and at least one during the day if i want to keep it alive. hate to say it but my gf's 4s' runs circles around my battery life.

It's not a fair comparison! Galaxy S3 has a quad core processor, a Super HD Amoled display, 4.8 inch screen, ofcourse it will drain more battery than an iPhone 4S which has a dual core processor and a mini screen! :)

today was my first serious test with the sgs3 battery at a conference in providence and it failed pretty miserably :/ Took the phone off charger about 11 am and it was completely dead by 6 pm even WITH a powerskin battery extender case. I could feel it getting really warm around 4-5 pm and I think that because it was in a weak area for both wifi and 4g it was losing juice from trying to pull a signal. I would consider my usage pretty moderate by my standards over the 7 hours

i am a moderate user , play music on way to work , about a hour there and hour back , texting often prob 80 a day , few phone calls maybe 5-7 ten minute calls a day , internrt browsing prob 2 hours a day , angry birds and wheres my water both hour each , checking emails , facebook , and i still have 40-50 % at end of day .

i think many are possibly expecting too much from a mobile phone .

especially one as powerful as the s3 is .

Is that off a stock battery?

Because it blows my mind how then all the phones differ to such degree. To do all that and still have half of your charge left, would make my century.

I dont even watch movies or listen to music on my phone. All i do is light texting, and refresh a few message boards throughout my day and by evening im at 20%.

Im not saying youre lying, but holy god....i think i might actual shed a tear if my phone could do all that and be at half charge by the end of my day.

well i appreciate you not saying i am a liar because i am not .
i installed "betterbatterystats" and left it run for two days and then after a full charge i started to monitor it .

disabled all the samsung bloatware
discovered loads of things that were keeping my phone awake when they shouldn't be .
it would be different for every user as everyone has different things running and apps installed .

but without doubt the best app i ever bought on my phone .
if i didn't play the game i would easily have 65% -70%

Interesting thing is a little after i posted this yesterday what i did was let me battery die down, pulled it, then put it back in and charged it and the phone definitely seems a heck of a lot different now in terms of charge, its holding so much better than it ever has...so not sure what thats about lol.

Do you have possibly a definitive listing of bloatware that shows what is removable or not? I still want to clean my phone out as much as possible, but im not sure about some of the things in terms of safe to remove.

Was this fairly recent? I ask because my phone is now draining at an alarming rate.
It happened after the firmware update about 1.5 wks ago. I tried various options like letting the battery drain and then full charge, switching it on while still on charger and letting it recharge back to 100%, doing a soft reset by pulling the battery, and taking out the memory card and putting it back again after restarting it. Not sure which one of those did it in the end but now it's more or less back to how it was before. But i see you already tried some of those things and yours is also improved.

48 hours of charger. 7 hours on screen time, mainly browsing and watching videos. Record is 8 hours on screen. Wifi on at home and 3g outdoors. No syncs. Powersave on.

WTF? I need my 6300mah extended battery to get that kinda life! How the hell can you get that out of the stock battery? I typically get 2 hours screen time and 10-sh hours total from stock if I keep usage VERY minimal.

I only charge my phone overnight, (which I shouldn't be) but obviously I start my day with 100% say about 9am and by the end of the day I always end up around no less than 15% by the time I sleep. With that I make some calls, texts, some e-mails, sometimes twitter and sometimes youtube. I'm mostly in a wi-fi area so maybe that's it. It'll last me a good day. On a heavy day I navigate, download updates and apps, stream videos, make phone calls, maybe send pictures and maybe a game and I still end with maybe 9% for the day. And that was before the OTA JB update. We'll see how my battery does now :)

this is a good starting place , but i cannot give you a list as i do not know what you do and do not use . so it is best you read up and decide yourself if you need it or not .

I have actually managed 36 hours on battery with 7 hours screen time once. I was on ICS with a custom kernel and I was quite surprised myself. Haven't managed the same since though.

Why "shouldn't" one charge their phone overnight? Especially knowing full well that the battery will drain overnight while unplugged?

For one, your phone can overheat as I heard some has. Second, my bill won't be sight to see as I leave my charger plugged to the socket 24/7 and I've seen electricity bills blow through roofs just for leaving your charger plugged in.
At about 10% the least on my phone at night, I charge it to 100% in an hour and a half or less. My S3 charges at a decent speed. With that, I wake up to 80 or 85% as I turn mostly everything off on my phone settings. Screen brightness, GPS, Wi-fi, screen saver mode, etc. Idk but I can live with that for now for me :)

If your phone overheats while on the charger then it's defective and should be returned for a less lethal version. Leaving your charger plugged in 24/7/365 will have such a minimal effect on your electric consumption that I doubt you could see the difference plugged or unplugged. There is a slight phantom power usage when your charger is plugged into the wall but not plugged into the phone. Even when plugged into the phone it is only providing charge amperage until the phone is fully charged, then reduces to a negligible trickle charge to maintain full charge as needed.

If you sleep better with it unplugged then by all means do so. Leaving it plugged in all night every night is a very common practice and most have survived.
