Need to Suppress Wireless Charging Notification

There are some threads on this for other models, but I am looking for info on how to remove wireless charging notification for my Sprint version. I assume this will require root and I have no problem with that.

Here's the scenario. I modified my Sprint phone to accept the Verizon wireless charging rear cover, while preserving NFC. (Instructions posted here).

Placing the phone on the charger gives a pop-up notification and tone that wireless charging has begun. Then wireless charging is complete (100%) and charging stops. Then the phone sits on the charger for a few minutes, drops to 99% full and wireless charging begins again, meaning another beep. This is an endless cycle and the constant beeps are driving me crazy.

I have turned off all volumes, all notifications, placed on silent, etc., but the "Starting Wireless Charging" tone and notification is still present.

Really would like to get this fixed as inductive charging is awesome, but not if the phone is gonna beep every few minutes.

@Mikestony: The notification is "WIRELESS CHARGING: You have placed the device within range. Now charging wirelessly." So, it never was an issue before wireless charging.

@funkylogik: On the US Sprint model, the notification tone can not be silenced with any parameter. I've turned EVERYTHING to 0 or silent. I successfully rooted today, but still trying to figure out the next step.

You need a app like root explorer paid app but worth it. now this is the part where I get a little lost it has been a long time since I silenced my shutter sound. But you need to go into the file menu on the phone and find the sound file I think the path is system/media/audio/ui

then rename the sound file from .ogg to something like .old
for the camera sound file name was camera_click.ogg I changed it to camera_click.old and all is good now

Hope this helps :)

One last thing do not delete any files if you get the wrong file then you have a whole new problem

Good advice -- I looked around in that folder and found many OGG sound files, but not the one that has the same sound as when wireless charging begins. Should I be looking somewhere else or does this tone not use an ogg sound file?
try some other folders but for sure it will be an OGG file and stick to the same path try system/media/audio/ui

Also the really smart guys on XDA might be able to give better advice :)

Maybe you can plug into a pc and do a dir *.ogg /s /p
I have not tried that

With the help of a really cool guy at XDA (Freza), this problem has been solved. Even though this post will prove that I'm an idiot, I'm gonna explain the solution in case someone else has this problem in the future.

It took him less than an hour (smart guy), and Freza was able to create a mod that removed the wireless pop-up. But the tone persisted. Freza looked everywhere and there was nothing he could find causing the sound. I even figured the Hz of the tone, thinking maybe that would help. Nothing.

Then Freza asked me to send him an audio of the tone. I did a quick five second video. When he got it, Freza recognized the charging pad, did some research, and found that others had the same issue.

The cause: It wasn't the phone. The CHARGING PAD has a tiny speaker and creates its own BEEP when a phone begins charging. It took me about two minutes to open up the charging pad, disconnect the speaker, and close it back up. Problem solved.

I understand why the charging pad manufacturer incorporated the beep notification as a design choice (user will know that phone is properly aligned on charger), but they sure didn't think it through (i.e. constant full power cycling means repeated beeping).

So I am publicly admitting that I am a moron; I never even considered that the tone was coming from the charger. But maybe my stupidity will help someone in the future who has this problem, does a search, and finds this thread.

One of the smart guys at XDA did a custom ROM for me. If you are rooted, I could send it to you.
I tried reaching out to Johnny Cakes to see if I could get a copy of that rom, but so far no answer - I suspect he doesn't frequent this forum anymore, but I am really looking for a mod to do this too. I've already rooted the phone and have removed the .ogg file to make it silent, but I'm sick of it repeatedly turning on the screen (and lighting up my bedroom) all night when its charging on QI. On another forum them mentioned NottachXposed mod that is supposed to do it, but when applying that one, my phone no longer boots (probably as it was made for the AT&T GSM version of the S4, not my USCellular CDMA version.) Any help? Anyone?
