t-mobile APN for Galaxy Nexus on 100 minutes/unlimited data (5gb)?

(I did a search for "APN" in this forum and nothing came up. Apologies if this has come up before)

I am running a Galaxy Nexus (4.2.2) on t-mobile. Previously I was on a non data plan and could send and receive MMS with wifi on or off by turning on mobile data.

Now that I have switched to the monthly 100minutes/unlimited data (4g cap @ 5gb), I am having issues with MMS:
- I can't seem to get MMS working at all, regardless of wifi
- Also, when wifi is on, my mobile data appears to shut off.

Assuming this is an APN issue. Anyone with a successful APN for this plan (and hopefully phone also) able to post their APN?

Thanks!

(Technical note: I am using my original SIM from my previous plan, as they said I did not have to swap SIMs. This is my second theory as to the issue - with my first theory being the APN)

off topic but how did you manage to switch your plan i thought it was for new activations only?

Name: T-Mobile
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy:
MMS Port:
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication Type:
APN Type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6

Thanks! But this didn't work (with wifi on and connected). I am beginning to think it is the older SIM needs to be swapped for a newer SIM.

You just need to know who to talk to and what they want to hear.

For this I went to t-mobile online chat and told them I was no longer under contract having been a three-year customer who has never renewed to upgrade my phone (I use only unlocked). I had them look up my records to verify this. Then I presented them with the facts that I could 1) find a cheaper plan with AT&T and 2) was currently grandfathered into a family plan that they no longer offered (so I knew they would want me to change).

I then told them that "the ideal scenario to keep me as a t-mobile customer" would be to take the two phones on the family plan and split them into two individual accounts with the $30/month plan each. They caved pretty quickly and agreed.

It was not without issues:
- I had to "cancel" my plan and "create" a new plan for both phones. This meant I would be without phone service from my cut off until my activation. But this was all documented, as was the fact that they would hold both my phone numbers for me. The end result was about 2-hours of no phone service.
- They did not put both phones on the $30/month plan. They put my phone on the $30/month plan and my other phone on another probably more expensive plan. A simple call back and written proof that two of the same plan was promised to me (which is why I chose the online chat feature to start all this) and things were corrected in minutes.

Wi-fi is "on", and the cellular data connection is supposed to work?

Try clearing the entry in the "APN Type" field.

I don't really understand APNs much. But that is how I had it before the new plan. Wifi on and mobile data on allowed me to get MMS.

I am under the impression that mobile data has to be on to get MMS. So, if wifi blocks mobile data, how would I receive/send MMS while at home?

Texts should come through regardless. Again, clear the "APN Type" field.

Cleared "APN Type" with both the default APN and the one suggested above (the only difference between the default and the one above is the APN Protocol and the APN Roaming Protocol were either IPv4/IPv6 or IPv4). Neither worked.

Just got off the phone with t-mobile engineering and they told me that when I switched accounts that there was "no mms profile" set up on the phone on their end. Apparently, this was a oversight as the account "transfer" I did from the family plan to prepaid and keeping my numbers blah blah blah had to be done by hand.

I will let you know if this was the problem all along when things are set right.

BTW, swapped to a new SIM just for good measure.

To sum for future reference (in case anyone has similar issues......this is all solved now)

- The APN that I am using is the default APN which can be set from the APN screen.

- The switch to prepaid from postpaid was mostly pain-free and I was able to get switch to two of the same prepaid plans because I had it in writing from tmobile online chat (perhaps the person who typed that I could did this in error - but tmobile had to stand behind the chat).

- In the switch they accidentally forgot to create MMS profiles for my new accounts. An online chat session with them fixed this.

- Using the old SIM (three plus years old) created a problem that I did not anticipate and t-mobile had no idea how to fix. On one phone I swapped SIMs to the new SIM ("for good measure") and that worked fine. On the second phone I was using the old SIM because I was told more than once there was no need to swap SIMs. Turns out the phone using the old SIM was only receiving about half of its calls and texts since the switch and intermittently so with no pattern regarding time or who the calls/texts came from. After I insisted over and over to tmobile to let me swap to the new SIM (they were reluctant for some reason) the phone almost instantly activated the new SIM. It began to send and receive calls, texts and MMS immediately and also began to flood with texts and MMS from up to 5 days previous.

The End
