I got my evo3d flashed to boost. I love the phone, love it way better than my prevail, lol.

Im looking for some info on ROMsand Kernals, without having to go through the rigormaroar of re-flashing. So, what can I do without losing my boost flash?

I read somewhere to NOT update the phone via system updates/firmware update.

So if anyone has a EVO 3d on boost and is good at ROM flashing and kernals, please contact me.

Im on hboot 1.50, gonna wire trick it into s-off.

Android Version 2.3.4
HTC sense 3.0
2.17.651.5

baseband 1.06.00.1216
htc-kernal@and18-2 31

Using EXT4 as recovery.

EDIT: Since this post, I have tried a few roms, such as viper, inbredded, and smooth criminal. I like them all, and flashing with EXT4 Recovery is pretty simple now, even with s-on.

Thanks to all who have responded and helped since I got this phone. Its been a wild ride learning its quirks.

If I can help anyone, please PM me.

ok, well I tried flashing ics deodexed and it failed.

Tried flashing cool ics v10 and it went thru, said to reboot, then i look at htc screen forever.

Now I got nothing but the HTC screen. Is that normal?

So do I need to ruu? And if so, what ruu to use? Im great with a prevail but this phone is stressin me out!

I just wanted the updated ICS.

Im on hboot 1.50 s-on. Infact, thats all i can do, is get into my hboot....

PS- tried flashing just thru TWRP. Do I need to use adb? I just need my phone back.

Ok, Im not bricked.

Cool ICS v10 EvoC | Cool Devs THIS IS THE ROM IM USING AS A TEST

I needed to place the boot.img from the rom on the phone using fastboot in adb. once I did that, it booted.. Still booting up as we speak....

I also had to place the boot.img file in the sdk-tools folder in order to send it to the phone. A key step that wasnt spelled out to me.

Looks like im bootlooping.........

Oops yeah for alot of roms if you are s on, a seperate flash of the boot.img is required to get it to boot up.

Have you got it to boot up since you did the seperate flash or have you done that yet?

Edit 2 Ignore that lol didn't register on head that you did :p

Is everything with the boost flash still good?

Edit 3 blehhh do a battery pull, boot into recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik and try to boot up again

Edit 4 looked at the rom, it's based off of official ics, meaning you'll need to be on hboot 1'58 for it to boot properly. Have you s off'd yet?

Edit 5 take a gander through this list and select a rom under all hboot or 1.50 hboot and give it a try

http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3d-all-things-root/650310-compatible-roms-different-hboots.html

Btw its real hard to brick the 3vo

The 3d is a complicated beast I think. I had the 4g flashed to boost and used any rom I wanted. No worries. With the 3d some roms would "undo" the boost flash.

The few roms that I'm aware of that undo the boost flash are Miui, cm10 and other aosp based roms. I had great luck with the older Viper 3d builds but the newer ones do the same. After flashing it is not on Boost any more but has reverted to Sprint!

The only thing that really saved me is that I flash to Boost myself and so I didn't have to track down RandomFlasherDude12 every time one of my flashes took me off Boost. It is a hassle no question.

I've had good luck with CleanRom, Viper 3d (older versions), Smooth Criminal and my latest has been Negalight (?). Good luck.

still boot looping. it fires up for a few seconds and dies.

One other issue is that i cant wipe hardly anything in twrp anymore. just about everything fails.

Im new to this phone so Im on a learning curve, again.

do i need to flash the rom with adb? I do not have s-off yet since i cant even boot up into a rom yet.

I see ICS cool rom needs s-off from what I can see. Downloading smooth criminal now. Do I use adb to send the boot.img to the phone, then flash with twrp?

The evo, it lives!

All I did was extract and move the boot.img from the smooth criminal rom into sdk-tools folder. I also sent the rom to my sd card by way of twrp in usb mount mode.

i then open sdk by:

start, run, cmd

cd c:\sdk-tools

then:
fastboot boot boot.img

THATS IT! NOTHING MORE!

Thanks again for all your help guys!

PS, ALL BOOST SETTINGS STAYED IN PLACE!

Sorry I haven't read through the whole thread.
If you are s-off flash this 4ext through bootloader as a PG86IMG.zip
http://db.tt/9VEkAHRe

If you aren't s-off, extract the recovery.img from the zip and fastboot flash it.

Edit: ah so you are s-on. You need to flash the boot.img separately. Try 4ext recovery. It has a feature called smart flash that allows s-on users to flash the boot.img along with the Rom.

Alternatively you can boot your recovery through fastboot with: fastboot boot recovery.img
This will also allow you to flash the kernel with the Rom. 4ext is easier though as you don't have to rely on the pc/fastboot

Well, I pushed the boot.IMG with fast boot adv.

Then flashed ROM with twrp.

Come to find out, my twrp was the wrong one. 4.x.x.x

Now on 2.2.0, all good!,

On to ext4. What file do I need to set that up? If I turn off, I have to keep pushing the boot.ing to restart.

Thanks guys for the help and tips!

BTW, I was doing all this from the truckstop and any few minutes I had to work on it. So yeah, its been fun.

If you are booted up now into your rom, the best way to install 4ext will be to go here: 4EXT Development
Download the free recovery updater. Install the app to your phone. Then open the app and go to online install. It will flash the recovery for you. When it asks if you are s-on say YES. That will enable the smartflash feature.

Is there a reason why you have 2 accounts ?? You do know that is against site rules. Please advise.
