Help Predictive text/autocorrect issues on Galaxy 3 since latest update

I have a Galaxy 3 with Sprint. Every since the latest OS update was pushed down I have been losing messages I type left and right. I narrowed it down to the following steps to repro (tested in facebook, twitter, email and messaging):

Type in a few words
Type an incorrect word and space
Backspace and press the blue suggested word
It will delete the bulk of the message and drop the corrected word in the middle and leave the incorrect word at the end.

I have contacted Samsung multiple times and they have suggested that I reset the messaging and keyboard data which I did and it did not make any difference. Then they suggested I was having reception issues and that is why I couldn't send messages (my issue is composing not sending). Then of course 3 of the people I have talked to gave one suggestion and then said I needed to hard reset the phone. After an exhausting thread on facebook the response I got was "I'll forward your feedback thanks".

Is anyone else having this issue? I dont' want to hard reset my phone and spend all that time reconfiguring everything for no reason.

I hope someone actually takes the time to read the OP. I have the same issue and can repeat the problem every time. What is annoying is that it will delete the entire message and leave you with a single word that is usable. If there was an undo it would not be so bad but the few times it happened I had to start over. Getting a new keyboard is not the answer and clearly you did not follow the OP instructions. This started with the latest upgrade which makes using predictive text much better with the exception of this single issue.

Prior to the update it often suggested words that were not even in the ballpark of what I was entering even when most of the word was spelled out and there could only be a few possible choices it would suggest something that was spelled completely different.

Seriously though, I should not have to regularly retype messages, email, and posts because apparently Google and/or Samsung won't even acknowledge this problem. Nor will I pay for a third party keyboard app when it's a vital component of the operating system.

This is not the only bug I've noticed, though I suspect a relationship, just above in the last line it randomly decided to delete the space between operating and system when I deleted an extra space at the end. I haven't gone to their support yet but from what I've read here and elsewhere I might as well not bother.

I have this problem and it is really really annoying. You have to just delete the whole messed up word that you wrote and rewrite it. Regarding swiftkey...I think it sucks. I had the flow beta and then I bought the new one for $1.99. It's good at predicting words and autocorrect, but the layoyut is so bad. For whatever awful reason they put the numbers to the left side of the screen. Why? Just make it like a traditional keyboard. What's so hard about that? And then for whatever reason again they put symbols on wrong pages instead of keeping the layout like a stock keyboard. I just wanted to make a simple face one day and I had to go to page 2 for one symbol and then page 3 for the other symbol just to make the face whereas the Samsung keyboard has the symbols on the same page. Makes it a lot easier. The keypress sound is terrible on swiftkey too. I like using keypress sound but I couldn't stand the tick sound it made. Just a few reasons I still stick with the stock keyboard. Needless to say I returned my swiftkey purchase for a refund before the 15 minutes that you're alloted to do so.

The alarm clock app that comes pre-installed has not been functioning properly since the most recent os update in that it doesn't light up the clock symbol when you tap on it to indicate whether the alarm is on or off. The alarm symbol appears in the top 'task bar' if any alarm is on but obviously if you set multiple alarms that's not super reassuring that the desired alarm is in fact on. Thankfully it does give you a little message saying an alarm is set. I will say that overall I'm very happy with my S3:) Had LG cosmos touch... ugggh what a terrible phone.

I use the default keyboard that came with my phone. I have the GSIII through Verizon.

I've noticed that this only affects my text messages. When I'm typing through apps such as facebook, this issue never seems to happen. I wonder if it's a problem with text messaging rather than the keyboard. Anybody else notice this?

I had a thorough response, didn't copy before posting, got a message saying I'm not logged in. Fml.
1. I'm experiencing this.
2. ...In all apps, including Go SMS (text app), fb, instagram, and more. Tonight it happened AGAIN on an app I use to track my daughter's diet and symptoms for medical reasons. Pissed.
3. Longpress keyboard selector from my text message screen (I have emoji keyboard, etc., prefer default for words) while Samsung Keyboard is in use, "App Info" takes me to "Android System" where I see it's version 4.1.2.
4. Can't believe there's no customer service outreach on this, especially with no app to review.

Could all the people having this problem please try another keyboard so that we can eliminate this as the problem. Nobody's saying you have to buy another keyboard - here is an excellent keyboard that is free, called Perfect keyboard Free, which I found had very good prediction and the layout is highly customizable (even including the size and spacing of the keys).

Particularly for the OP, BeingIansMommy, it would help you argue your point to Customer Support if through a process of elimination you can say it is nothing to do with reception issues and you don't want to hard reset your phone because it works with other keyboards.

Believe it or not I actually just got the GS3 about a week ago. Got it as a loaner to test out. Thought this error was just something with predictive text with Samsung.

Glad I found this thread, as this issue is just STUPID annoying.

OP described it perfectly. Was this happening at all before the update??

Anybody else notice that when they type a word incorrectly, that the word will remain incorrect? Leaving me to believe there is no autocorrect working at all. Predictive text sort of helps to autocorrect but you still have to select the word.

For example, if I type 'incorec' (notice only 1 r) into a text field, the word 'incorrect' is displayed as a predictive text option to select. So it spells it correctly in predictive text, but if I finish the word and spell it like 'incorect' then the phone does not auto correct it to the proper spelling.

Is that normal with this device? Seems awful.

Try using the keyboard that I suggested in the post above yours, Perfect Keyboard Free. It has both "touch to correct words" function (selectable) and "auto-complete" (selectable) which is the feature that you wish the Samsung keyboard offered. Spacebar and punctuation automatically insert the highlighted word.

I particularly like this keyboard because if you swipe up on the spacebar you get a row of arrow keys which you can use to precisely position your cursor for editing.
