People are asking when is the 5.0 update coming to the galaxy nexus its not because 5.0 requires a quad core processer that's means the us s3 won't get it they will get 4.2.2 :D so will most Samsung phones so the highest version of android any dual core phone can get is 4.2.2 which is still good right thoughts on this subject guys

This has not been confirmed yet. Google will announce Android 5.0 requirements during Google I/O in may.

It’s unclear though if the cut-off for Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie with quad-core processing is part of Samsung’s own internal policies or if it stems from Google.

I wouldn't believe anything you read regarding the next iteration of Android until it comes out of the mouth of Google.

JellyBean will still run on 3 year old, Single Core handsets so for whatever the next version of Android is to require 4 cores is probably stretching it a little. I'm not saying it's not the case, it might well require quad core, but until we have that confirmed by Google, I doubt it's true.

I have 4.2 JB on a MT4G with 1GHz single core processor.

Spec limits are generally an arbitrary designation by OEMs to claim a device is obsolete. If a device is supported for more than 2 years, where is the motivation to buy a new device? It is highly likely the GS3 gets the next version of android since it will be ~18 months old at that point. Precedent: The GS2 is currently receiving JB.

5.0 hasn't even been announced. Any "rumor" is pure speculation and has little truth to it.

This makes no sense. If Android 5 literally required a quad-core CPU, then the Nexus 10 would be out of luck too. I could see the Nexus S not getting 5.0 officially, but I'd be surprised if the GN was left out. I could also understand if RAM was a barrier, but not core count or clockspeed--these SOC's spend 99% of their time idling.

This reminds me of the fabricated rumors about 4.2 and project roadrunner, modular UI skins...

{edit}

I think Google has used the term "key-lime pie" but never "5.0" that I recall. They might advance the minor number instead, so KLP could very well be 4.3.

As others have said, there have been BS rumours about earlier android versions, including made-up system requirements. My guess is that this is the same.

Remember also that counting cores isn't enough. The quad core S3 and One X weren't really more powerful than the dual core variants, because the dual core versions used more modern cores. So requiring quad cores would mean what? Not simply processing power. And if your OS were so busy that it needed multiple cores humming along just to maintain responsiveness that would be a bad design for a mobile device.

Nah, forget it and wait for Google to announce something.
