OUYA: Video Game Console

I know some people received their Ouya. If so, how is it?

From what I've seen on various forms people with backer #s as low as 1200 haven't even received shipping info. They probably sent out a handful just so that they could say they met the self imposed deadline.

My# is so high I haven't even bothered to check it yet.

Edit- it's 52369 out of 63000

So we have been looking into the Ouya and have a dev kit. It's a cool and unique device. Really fun to use and play around with.

Speaking strictly personally, I'm waiting to get one. I guess I'm just waiting for an "Ouya game" something that I can't get anywhere else. Right now, it's just a bunch of existing Android games. While that is fantastic, I'm going to pick one up personally once I see games that will only work on Ouya. Secretly, I'm hoping for a renaissance of 16-bit platformers.

Arrived Shipping Partner Facility

SECAUCUS, NJ 07094

Departed Hong Kong on the 3rd.

Not bad for shipping time. All though they shipped it 5 weeks later then we were led to believe they would.

I'll give my impressions late tonight or tomorrow. Of course with tomorrow being mother's day, I'll have to give my wife some attention too.

Backer #52369 for anyone trying to make sense of priorities. I had a feeling the NY area would not wait until last regardless of #

I've been so busy installing superuser on it and rooting my Galaxy tab 2 to transfer over games and apps, I haven't done much actual game play. Ouya is rooted already, but the drivers are not public. So getting adb to connect may take a little effort. It was easier to root and install superuser on the Tab 2 then it was to just install superuser on the OUYA. I finally got smart and connected a mouse to the OUYA and it makes using file manager and backup apps a lot faster.

I think the Ouya dev team have shot themselves in the foot by omitting the Play Store. Sure it can be sideloaded, but I don't think most people would go through the trouble of doing that. I was interested in this device, but because it is not a handheld and there are so many other up and coming developments happening in the Android gaming world (mostly from JXD and Yinlips) I'll probably pass.

there is stiff competition for the consoles as piston, and ps4 along with xbox 720 are coming soon.
I know this comment is old now, but Piston is a bit of a joke as it costs $999 and doesn't even run the games very well. Valve is supposedly working on their own box that might be better, but only time will tell.

Ouya needs more quality games. Zen Pinball sideloaded blows Pinball Arcade from their store out of the water. It doesn't look like I can transfer the data for my purchased tables from Zen Pinball, it seems to be air tight encryption linked to the device.

Sideloading Google play will become increasingly difficult. It is incredibly complicated already, as far as I have read no one has completely pulled it off yet.

GTA3 runs great but uses close to 25% of available storage. So I have to uninstall it in order to try any other big games I backed up.

Can you save the game data on a SD card? I'll be at E3 and will dropping by the Ouya Outdoor booth to see if there are any new updates.

As of right now the USB port can not be used for game or app storage. There is no SD card slot.

I have determined that my controller has the analog stick dead zones that were supposedly solved. I sent an email Sunday with documentation and have received no reply from support. So right now it is a $100 paperweight. I need to see if Dynamite Jack can be played with the Dpad and try that. I learned that the option for keyboard button mapping can also be used to map controller buttons.

When I hear from support I am considering delaying having a controller replacement sent right away, because I think they are going to have to do a V2 with improved touch pad, a dedicated menu button and a better overall build quality especially in the analog triggers. My triggers have noticeably different springs and the left trigger jammed within the first few minutes of playing pinball the night I got it.

Please try and get some direct answers about these problems and report back.
