Disappointed in Sprints speeds in your area?

Sprint did not make it clear if you cant get LTE signal, you will only get 3G and not 4G speed. Sprint should just have wait until all the LTE are deployed with 100% coverage, then release LTE phone.

Just to give you all more info, T-mobile can do software update on any 4G phone ot get LTE signal overnight.

Why cant Sprint do this?

Is it CDMA technology is inferior to GSM?

Wait.

Where are you hearing that about T-Mobile?

And CDMA is superior to GSM.

Unfortunately, LTE is a GSM technology.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here, Dan. Sprint is actually rolling out faster than any of the other carriers ever did. I've stated it numerous times across a few threads, but the reason people feel that other carriers have been rolling out "better and faster" is because of their blanket coverage deployment, which is the opposite of what Sprint is doing. I feel that Sprint is exceeding my expectations as far as the roll out of 4G LTE/upgraded 3G is concerned. Granted, my expectations were not very high to begin with.

Network Vision isn't complete in your area of TX, and won't be for some time. It's a brand new network - did you really not anticipate any hiccups?

ok.. they are adding more cities

but from what i see.. they add a few towers in a city.. and announce it has LTE. even though you have to be near a tower to get it.. and many big wholes in coverage. then move on to the next city.
they will come back to fill in the gaps.. but slowly.. and sometime before end of 2014.

while.. other carriers when they say LTE is up.. there is better connection and reliability.

if you are part of the lucky few that live and work around the towers.. great. :D

but i feel that sprint is playing most of us.. making most wait in the dark. even i live in a city with light (LTE)...a city that as had it LTE from the start of this NV plan! still getting crap 3G and drop calls (roaming)

yeah.. I am stuck with sprint.. because of family plans

No, there aren't just a few groups going around the country setting up a few towers at a time.

There are large teams of people working in a specific market tower by tower.

Sprint is very upfront when they announce a market that its usually only about 40% complete. Those teams keep working.

Example, Minneapolis hasn't been announced yet, but its already covering most highways and many areas around me.

When sprint announces it, there's not going to be any magic. Its not going to be full coverage all of a sudden. Its going to keep rolling out tower by tower.

Exactly what he said. Sprint is upgrading EVERY tower not just this and that one. And second myth u said u don't have to be right by a tower to get lte. The tower I'm on is 7 blocks away then switch's to the one 5 blocks away but consistent signal though.

No, they do not. NONE of the US carriers deploying LTE has ever waited for a market to be 100% before officially "launching" it. Honestly, I'm not sure where you get your information, but go on S4GRU and read for yourself. A majority of the major markets are behind schedule, but that still leaves them to be completed by the end of 2013 - not 2014. 2014 as a time frame is only a reference to when Sprint anticipates Network Vision to be completed. As for LTE not being active at times, that honestly doesn't have much to do with Sprint. In fact, that is Sprint defending us. Sprint was likely unsatisfied with the downtilt and/or another aspect of the particular tower that they made the OEM go back and make changes. That works out in our favor, but that doesn't happen overnight.

It gets worse before it gets better. :banghead:

Yeah.. i got the "gets worse" part... 1.5 yrs of it...
and understand and was expecting it... just not so long

how long before the "gets better" part? that is what i am referring too.

living in one of the first cities to get sprint LTE.. Dallas/ Ft Worth area.
and 1.5 yrs of bad... with faith that it will get better.
how long can faith last? what do you think is reasonable?
me, personally.. i have ran out of faith..and calling BS! Yes.. sprint is still working on things in my city..but the team in my area is moving very very very slow.

When it comes to LTE upgrades Sprint does the best they can with what information they have. Most of the major tower upgrades are ready but Sprint must wait for backhaul to be in place before the upgrade can happen. In my area So Cal the towers are ready but nothing can be installed without backhaul. The install teams are almost always ready or on standby waiting and LTE equipment ready to go. Just got to wait for the bandwidth.

Dan slow speeds do suck but if you have bad 3g then LTE is not going to be any better. Most people don't understand that LTE is going to cover the same area as 3g. I hate to give you the bad news but it sounds like you might be in a dead spot area.

...Sites Complete = <1%; Anticipated LTE Launch = TBD
...Original Scheduled Completion = Q4 2013; Current Production Rate Completion = TBD

This is where I live. How can they possibly finish by the 4th quarter of 2013 if they haven't even started??

I hate when people brag about their great speeds. It just bums me out. I'll be lucky if I get LTE midway through 2014. I get about 250 kb download speed. They could at least get us reasonable 3g speeds in the meantime.

This is my exact scenario + DAN330's experience of degrading service before it gets better.

Hopefully for DAN330 & others here, they have a choice to switch to another carrier w/better coverage.

Unlimited data was the one thing keeping me around. However, with T-MOBILE's new no-contract plan options reasonably priced, that's another possibility for others to consider.

As long as you don't have an exorbitant ETF,there's no reason to not try another carrier,as the major carriers have a 14-day bail-out clause & switch back to SPRINT,should it prove to be your best option.

SPRINT customer service has been nothing short of EXCELLENT in my experience w/them,but,nothing is going to make up for the fact that they simply do no have the coverage in my area where I need it most,to have a good experience w/SPRINT.

I'm not faulting SPRINT here,it's just my dumb luck that their coverage isn't the best where I need it most.Other parts of town are great, but at work & home, not so much.

I'm switching to T-MOBILE at the end of my billing cycle next week & will be using a borrowed LG G2X until the HTC ONE arrives.

I'll drop back in after a week or two to give a comparison of the two carriers service.

That refers to first round markets, not the entire project. Also, that was the original projected date, which Sprint already confirmed was inaccurate due to major delays in deployment for major markets.

Ok this is the most honest review of a carrier I have seen in a long time. But even better then that.... You see the fact that you are in a bad area for Sprint so you are moving on. Don't blame the carrier if you live in a bad area for that service provider move on or do better research. we have over 400 lines with Sprint and I have employees ask me all the time what service is best. I tell them whatever service works in your area. Yes we get a corp discount on Sprint but is it worth it for dropped calls or slow service. I leave that part up to them. If you are singing up on the word of a sales person then bad things can happen. Remember that sales rep might not live in the same area as you or just telling what you need to hear.

So you are saying that they are doing what they promised, but are having major delays in deployment.

The thing is there were never any promises made. These are assumptions that the public makes. Sprint (or any other company) doesn't go out there and say "I promise to do xyz by zyx date" because they will have serious blow back if they did. Instead, they give projections, which are always subject to change. I'm not making excuses for Sprint. I'm just trying to give people the proper information because many appear to have been told false information.

I think something that often gets overlooked is many people have been with their particular carrier for years and have had great service for much of that time.
Usually when performance decreases we don't think that decrease is going to last long so we deal with it cause we know it'll get fixed.

Even with the switch from WiMax to LTE we wait it out because as we've been told..... good things come to those who do.....
My 3G is not fantastic yet at the same time my phone is not completely unusable so switching to a different carrier would only be necessary if the wait was costing me significant stress.

I've noticed over the past several months that my ability to hold onto a 3G or 4G signal when I'm out and about (usually north Houston, above downtown and around Spring-Cypress area) is absolutely atrocious. Not only does my phone (HTC EVO 4G LTE) constantly bounce between 3G and 4G (it can't seem to actually stay on 4G very long), but even when it does have a 4G signal, the speeds are no better than 2-3 Mbps, and sometimes even *less* than 1 Mbps!

Needless to say, 3G speeds are even worse, and often (as happened yesterday), I had no signal at all for a good 10-15 minutes. I was unable to do anything that involved data, and the sync icon (the rotating arrows) remained stuck in my notification bar, as if the phone was trying to find a connection. At one point, the 3G icon itself disappeared, I assume because it just couldn't connect.

This happens almost all the time. I'm even wondering if it's my phone, because I can't imagine Sprint service is THAT terrible.

What is everyone else's experience with Sprint in Houston? Maybe with this particular phone?

Thanks.
