Help A little help please...

I just had my Bionic upgraded to OS 6.7.246.XT875.Verizon.en.US and have Android version 4.0.4. Not surprisingly, nothing works as it use to and not always for the better.

1.
I have a ringtone and a notification tone. I want to phone to work as follows:
a. When I get a phone call, I want to hear the ringtone (and the vibrate if possible).
b. When I get a text message, I want to hear the notification tone (and the vibrate if possible).
c. When I get an email message I just want it to vibrate (no audible tone).
d. When I get a Facebook update I just want it to vibrate (no audible tone).

I cannot seem to find the right combination of settings to make this happen.

2. On the previous OS, when I rotated the phone horizontally, the icons on the apps screen would also rotate to display horizontally. It doesn't do that anymore. An individual app will rotate to horizontal but the app screen won't.

3. The new OS seems to be eating up battery juice much faster than the old one. The old OS had Battery Saver settings but I can't find them on this OS (assuming they are there).

Thanks for your assistance.

A and B are in system settings, sound. Select the ringtones of choice and select (check) vibrate and ring. For C open text messaging from the icon and go to Messaging Settings. Under notifications, select ringtone, choose the second one (silent) and under vibrate check also vibrate when notified. I don't do facebook on my phone but I suspect there are similar settings when you open the app and check settings.
Re: rotation, my home screens do not rotate, only when I go into an app. I like it this way. For batter life check out the smart actions app. I also have an extended battery. If you get one make sure it is an OEM one.
Curious why you are just updating to ICS. Thom is a real expert and an FDR solves a lot of problems. I always take his advice. Hope I have helped with the settings.

The gmail app can definitely be set up to vibrate only. I'm not sure about the other email app, though; I don't use it. I believe it can be set to vibrate with the tone set to silent, though.

The Facebook app can definitely be set that way; that's the way that mine is set up. Menu. Settings. Notifications on; vibrate on; notification ringtone set to silent.

You must have been using a third party home launcher in gingerbread, because (unless i am remembering wrong) the stock launcher did not rotate with the phone.

OK. Now another question. I have the Bionic connected to the Bluetooth in my car. Every time I start the car and the Bluetooth tries to connect, I get prompted on the phone asking if it is OK to connect.

How can I turn off the prompt and allow it to connect automatically without asking?

If I select "Don't ask again" will it automatically connect from then on, or will it default to not connecting?

If you select Don't Ask Again, every time I have seen that it does automatically what you choose it to do. So if you select don't ask and then connect, it should automatically connect everytime.

If you select "Don't ask again" it will connect automatically and not prompt you again.

Thank you both! :)

Me again.

Last night by Bionic went through some kind of an upgrade and now all 200 of my Facebook friends are showing up under my People list. I don't want the Facebook friends in there; just the people I call on a regular basis.

I know I can go through and hide the ones I don't want to see, but is there a way to hide all the FB friends at once?

EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out.

OK. I'm back. Thanks again to all of you who helped me with my earlier problems. Now, a more complex one.

I have been unsuccessful in rooting my Droid Bionic ever since I got it almost two years ago. All the apps/suggestions I have tried are either out-dated or simply don't work. This is the first time I have ever tried to root a device so in that sense I am an absolute unequivocal abysmally dumb Noob.

I've asked questions on various forums and most of the responses are links to other sites that again are out-dated or don't work. Or I hear a bunch of terminology I that I don't understand.

So.

What I am asking for (begging, actually) are current, up-to-date instructions in plain English that can help me root my device. Sort of a Rooting for Dummies guide.

The specs on my Bionic are as follows:

System Version: 98.72.22.XT875.Verizon.en.US

Android Version: 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Baseband Version: CDMA_N_05.22.00R LTEDC_U_09.1D.00

Webtop Version: wt-3.0.0

Kernal Version: 3.0.9-g4a62d00

SMP PREEMPT Fei Mar 8 15:16:35 CST 2013

Build number: 9.8.20-72_VZW-22

Build Date: Fri Mar 814:50:18 CST 2013

I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me out here. Thank you.

A tremendous amount of information on this subject is in a sub-forum. Try asking your root-related questions in ... Bionic - All Things Root - Android Forums. In particular, check out ... http://androidforums.com/bionic-all...orola-droid-bionic-all-things-root-guide.html ... for how to root your Bionic.

Any root-related questions asked in the main forum will be moved to the All Things Root sub-forum.

Good Luck.

Thanks, but again I don't need links, I need instructions. I went to the links you suggested and it is all mumbo jumbo.

What I need are specific directions.

Step 1: Do this.
Step 2: Do that.
Step 3. Click here.

etc.

The links I gave you are where the information is located.

The second link when you open it lays out the information and you want to look at the section that says ... Root under Jelly Bean.

There is a link located there on where to go for step-by-step root-ing of your Bionic.

When you do root it violates your warranty and you are 100% responsible for whatever happens after that point.

My recommendation is that you read a lot before doing it (unless you have a disposable Bionic).

Rooti-ing got rather complicated after Jelly Bean and I think you are not going to be very happy with what is needed when you read the step-by-step instructions I provided.

This is the non-root-ed Bionic forum and all the information you are looking for is in the Bionic All-Things-Root sub-forum.

Here is the sort of thing I've been looking for, and it worked. I was finally able to get it rooted.
