Help SIM Unlock PIN after Firmware Upgrade

First, let me say I'm new to the forum, pretty technically savvy but little to no idea about mobiles!
On 27th March KIES informed me that there was a firmware upgrade available (I rarely attach to my PC so it may have been around for some time) . On downloading I now get a 'SIM Unlock PIN' request - which never happened in the last year (phone purchased Feb 2012).
Current/Latest firmware is listed as PDA:LSD/PHONE:LS8/CSC:LS6

The dealer says it's a firmware problem and will not fix/cannot fix.
The local Samsung agents won't touch and refered me back to the company I purchased from (Eureka - Kuwait) which has there own 12 month guarantee (attached to invoice).
So, I'm stuck with a dead phone.
The phone is GT-I9100 with 16 GB.
Inside the cover it says I910GSMH and S/N RV1C11WQJNZ.
I know 'GSM' :) but no idea what the rest stands for
Inside the original box there is a 24 month waranty in German, Slovenian, French, Swiss etc but no English. Guess the phone was intended for continental Europe only.

Any ideas?:thinking::(

It appears as if your phone has been locked to another Network at one time and then unlocked, a Firmware upgrade does on occasion set this lock back, have you had the phone unlocked yourself ? if not then the "dealer" may have done this, I would say its their responsibility if you have done nothing untoward

Hi Kelis32,

I suspect that the local company bought the Samsung S2 from another European dealer where they were designed to run on a different network.
The day I got the phone then I just put the card in and it worked straight off. It's only when I did the firmware upgrade that the problem arose.
Nothing 'untoward' at all done.
I also checked with the network provider I use (Wataniya) first and they hadn't a clue. Plus I also tried a few other 'mobile shops' with no joy.
The official Samsung dealer (if there is such a thing here), Wahran Trading, won't even repair at a cost because the S/N is not on their database - i.e. it wasn't imported by them.
So, starting to look like I've (and probably a few thousand others) have been shafted.

Its should be simple to get round, you should be able to find a shop to unlock for a small fee, or even an online service, you can even try yourself as there are a number of apps that have had success but you will have to root your phone first

If you type *#7465625# on your phone it will show the lock status and if as you think the dealer has unlocked these then they should unlock it again really for free

1. Not so easy here but I'll see what I can find. I thought there was a limitation on tries before the phone becomes a brick?
2. Have contaced Samsung Middle East also and awaiting reply.
3. Nothing happens when I type *#7465625# (*#06# gives the IMEI as a check). What does this mean?

Thanks for your help Kelis32

Don't know if you've managed to sort this but I had the same SIM unlock issue when I upgraded my unlocked, UK (XEU) S2 from ICS to the latest Nordic Jelly Bean ROM via ODIN last weekend. Even though the device has never been locked (I bought it brand new two years ago) it still prompted for this code after flashing the new ROM

I got round it by rooting the device then running Chainfire's '[root] Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock' app from the Play store, which successfully found the unlock code. On entering it the first time it stated 'failed' for some reason, but after rebooting the phone and trying again, it worked. I had an issue afterwards (presumably because of the root for some strange reason?) so I re-flashed the Nordic ROM and it's now back to Nordic JB stock and working perfectly. :)

Just waiting for the UK XEU JB ROM now and I'll flash back again.
