Does anyone know how to take a screenshot using the official Jelly Bean updates? But before you respond, here's what I have already tried:

Again,

Here's what DOES NOT work:
1. Pressing Home & Power simultaneously.
2. Pressing Volume Down & Power.

Home + power simultaneously is how it is done. There is no other way. If it's not working, then something is wrong with your phone, or you are just to impatient to wait the approx. 2 seconds it takes.

Lol. No. The 2 second wait does not work but neither does 3, 5, 8 seconds, other key combinations. So you see, my patience has served me well and particularly in all of these instances.

Have you tried re-installing the update? That may fix it. Or possibly clearing the cache? You can do that by powering down the phone, then holding up and the power button. Then choose clear cache and then reboot. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. Home + power should work.

Maybe I'm pressing the wrong "home" key? The key with the house on the bottom of the phone?

That's the only home key I know of.

Yeah. But it aint working. I think I have a bad version for some reason. I dont know where else to get a copy of the update other than the one on the samsung website. Samsung also tried to get it work but finally accepted reality. They recommended I ship to them for assessment/repair.

I was having this same problem, and after googling and reading your post, I was very angry. I was discouraged from even trying anything else. I figured we were toast. I had been so used to the old way of pressing power + volume down, and getting the timing exactly right, I thought I knew how to do it. I read the instructions and understood them.

But I had a breakthrough. I just hit it like a ninja. The power button and home button, I made sure they were struck in exact perfect timing, at exactly the same time. Not like CTRL+ALT+DELETE, one after another. But like you're trying to poke its eyes out, or apply that judo pressure point trick on the sides of its neck. I pressed them at the exact same time, and held them. It captured the screen shot.

I'm truly giddy that it worked, thus the childlike joy and the judo and ninja references. :D

Galaxy S2 (Epic 4G), 4.1.2

Could it be that you were trying the old way of Power + Button, but didn't strike them at the exact same time?

Been there, done that even... it just didn't work on the Official JB release.

I rooted and so it works but only after rooting.. :)

It was a bitch for me too, but I did finally get it to work. The JB update did screw up the ease of using it.

In Jellybean 4.1.2 holding the Power button brings up the Device Options Menu and holding Home + Power brings up the "Recent Apps" screen. Next idea?

Yes, just one more. Push home and power simultaneously, not separately. Holding the home button alone brings up the recent apps menu. So by pushing home before power, only the home button is registering.

Thanks for your perseverance. You are right, when you get them absolutely simultaneous it takes a screen shot. Unfortunately this only happens about once in 20 attempts - it really has to be precisely simultaneous !
