android smiley help

hey all! this is my first post on any forum ever so be kind lol! anyways, ive noticed lately that every single person i know has these alien or android looking smiley faces instead of the normal ones. i know a lot of people are wanting to know how to get rid of them but I would like to know how to get them. i have a droid razr maxx and it has updated to JB but i seem to be the only one who can't figure out how to get the things...any ideas?

Smileys are usually built into the system.

its dependent on the SMS app you use. Some have in their settings options to use what type of smileys.
