Just accepted Jelly Bean update on my Bionic

I just updated. A little kluggy for the first hour. seems to be smoother now. I had to rejoin my contacts. Gallery look has changed. Generally better performance. Lets give it another day. What improvements should we be seeing?

yeah it wants to update a lot of apps and whatnot after the install so give it some time and then restart again

Mine has finally settled down and looks ready for prime time.

first impressions: Browser is definitely faster. General app and widget speed also appears to have improved. Swype seems fine, but I'll need at least a week to properly evaluate it. Same goes for most everything else in general.

So it looks good for now. My Bionic may get a stay of execution for a while

Is this build 22 or build 23? If it's build 22 I would reccomend to anyone who hasn't taken it yet to NOT to take it.

There has been a lot of talk that that build 22 of JB for the Bionic failed a lot of tests and Moto did make a build 23 that people said was very stable and good, but Droid Life reported a few days ago that build 22 was what Verizon was choosing to push out. So I would not take this until you hear what others have had to say, especially those who did an FDR as those who don't do an FDR could have issues that an FDR would clear up.

I have read about it booting up by itself getting the update. The guy I bought my Bionic from said he just used it a few months so I don't know how many updates I've missed. I just found how to clear the cache, history, cookies, etc. and it still lags. Now I know what ppl were talking about. When I enter something in the browser and hit search it takes many seconds...maybe a minute IF it even goes! My old Droid Htc Inc 3G was a lot faster!!

yeah I read your build 22 vs. 23 discussions in other threads. I think it's easy for internet discussion to exaggerate "issues" and you have to take it all with a grain of salt. Especially because very often hardcore tech people tend to obsess on details that don't affect the vast majority of users.

Regardless of what you think of verizon or motorola, they chose to approve this build which you would assume passed some sort of testing process that met their criteria. You are free to have no confidence in that.

I am not going to presume to know enough to start recommending to the general public to take or not take this update. But I took it, and my phone is definitely functioning better than it was only a few hours ago.

I'll report back if I have a catastrophic system failure or nuclear meltdown.

This is more than just an internet discussion. The very people who have tested builds in the past, who make mods for the Bionic all have said that build 22 was essentially a disaster in testing.

Here is what Samuri, the maker of House of Bionic, even said on the Droid Life article about release 22...
DROID Bionic Jelly Bean Update Approved by Verizon as Build 98.72.22 (Updated) – Droid Life
Don't drag me into this. :) I don't have any access to see the builds anymore. I'm only going by what I was told. We were told it was supposed to be 23. When I last saw the testing, build 22 didn't look so good. AFAIK it failed testing. So the fact that it's rolling out....not good IMO. I'll be skipping the traditional install of it...

Remember, Verizon too approved the ICS build that was pushed to the Razr/Razr Maxx last year that was a complete disaster and was likely one of the reasons ICS was so late in being sent to us. So just because Verizon approves it, doesn't mean it works well as plenty of past evidence points to.

Perhaps build 22 will be fine, I'm not saying it won't be. What I am saying is that almost all of the "in the know" people concerning the Bionic who do tests and make mods all say 22 failed testing and caution a wait and see approach.

If this statement is the most convincing thing you can come up with, I don't see a whole lot of reason to doubt the build.

So just because Verizon approves it, doesn't mean it works

I said no such thing. But I'm going to choose to accept the decision of the company over some speculative and unconvincing internet comments

really? almost ALL of them? Almost All of the people directly involved with this build release are posting online that the build is a failure? I highly doubt the veracity of this statement. It's pretty hyperbolic.

I don't usually slam a wait and see approach, but idea that this build is a failure seems to be a bit overblown. And your declaration that people should not take it is a bit presumptuous.
