Root [ROM] Negalite-Blurom | 2.95.651.5 | Virgin-Mobile/Sprint | Sense/Apex/Nova | Aroma | 08-10-2013

How are file duplicates handled during restore? That seems as dirty as a dirty flash.

It formats your data and restores the backup. You don't get new updated files, but they are more than likely already updated by you.

Just backup/restore data only

OK, I'm on r91, and I must say, your tip has saved me over an hour...thanks!!!

One thing I've noticed though, and I've only been on r91 for 5 minutes now...

Some of Kernel Tuner's settings were remembered, but most of them went back to the default. I had to tweak the frequencies and change governors...but the capacitive button backlight intensity was where I had previously set it. Also, the fast charge was off...and if memory serves me, it's on by default. All the MPDECISION stuff went back to default as well. I've got everything back to the way I want it.

I've never used the advanced backup/restore before so that was something new for me.

Thanks again for a MONSTER of a ROM.

Kernel Tuner isn't working right for me. The settings are sticking, but I am not getting the message the KT has been granted SU permission like I used to after each and every change I make.

I also can't seem to get my 2D GPU to go up to 266. It's stuck at 228. I've even rebooted, but nada. Also, as I was writing this, I opened KT and changed my freq up to 1728, and the phone got stuck for 10 seconds and then rebooted on its own.

The good news is...the GPU is now at 266, but the change to 1728 didn't stick, I'm still at 1512. This is all probably Buttered Toast / Kernel Tuner related...it likely has nothing to do with BluROM.

The auto-screen-brightness setting is still acting up on me though. Seems like on r89, it was gone, but it's doing it again on r91.

Sometimes kernel tuner resets after a kernel flash. Doesn't always happen though. Thanks, brother :)

There is something really whack with my phone. I was at my lunch break listening to MP3s through some Bluetooth headphones when my boss called. He had trouble hearing me through the headphones, so I turned them off and put the phone up to my ear. I immediately noticed that the screen was hotter than normal especially for it not charging.
After the call, I went to hang up but I couldn

I was thinking about your issues. I think you are overthinking the whole thing. This ROM runs spectacular without making any changes to MPDECISION. When you do get up and running just leave it alone. Adjust your CPU speeds and governors to where you want them . Choose init'd script under restore settings after reboot. Don't link both cores either. I have never had any issues at all. NEVER. You do seem to have a fair amount of issues on a regular basis. Please don't take this the wrong way. I am only trying to help.

I can't leave the MPDECISION alone. I refuse to leave the default value of 500ms in there for the Service Start Delay. Also, after restoring back to r89, I get the Kernel Tuner has been granted SU permission statement all the time. This CANNOT be related to MPDECISION settings...as with r89, I am running it my way, and it runs flawlessly.

I'd rather try to figure out why KT isn't being granted SU permission...and I know it's not the MPDECISION. I will try the init.d thing you mentioned, as I've always left that setting at the default of "On Boot Completed" (which has never caused an issue in the past with SU)

EDIT: I'm going to start fresh but not restore the data partition to see if Kernel Tuner behaves differently. I'll even leave the MPDECISION alone..... for now :p

EDIT AGAIN: I am bone stock r91 right now, and KT is acting up again as mentioned. When i change settings, I am not getting the KT has been granted SU permission message. IIRC, almost every setting change you make brings up that message. I'm not getting that message. To be sure I'm not going crazy, I just restored my NAND for r89, and if I change the governor then go back a page, I get the message about KT being granted SU permission. That doesn't happen with r91. I can change the governor, and go back a page, and nothing is stated about SU permissions.

If I so much as open the options for MPDECISION, and hit cancel, I get the SU permission message on r89...not so with r91. The same is true for the GPU settings. I don't even have to change the settings, I simply hit cancel, and that message is displayed. This isn't happening on r91.

As a reminder, this is bone stock r91. I haven't done anything to it. Can anyone else try this out for me and report back?

That's very strange. Next time you flash fresh, let it stay booted for 10 minutes, then reboot and try kernel tuner. Also you should get a kernel tuner grant message when you first unlock the phone after first boot. I see it every time I flash fresh(which is every time because I have to make sure it boots before I release it)

I definitely get the initial message about SU upon a reboot. Also, if I just open KT, I usually get the message right when I open it. But I'm not getting it after I make changes to settings like I did in r89 and all revisions prior.

Also, I can't seem to get my GPU to 266 no matter what I do. In the past (and I mean all the way back to r36) I would have to select 266 and apply it, then reboot for it to change to 266. But on r91, I cannot get the 2D GPU to go to 266. I'm not getting the SU message when I apply the settings, and I feel that's got something to do with it.

Another thing I've noticed...under MPDECISION settings, you can tell it to disable the second core when the screen is off. Well, I am turning that feature off, and hitting apply (not getting the SU message) and after a reboot, the setting goes back to where it was, not where I changed it to.

On the brighter side, I did go all night with r91 and the phone turned on just fine this morning but it's not usable to me with KT acting this way. I just restored my r89 NAND and saw that Kernel Tuner for r89 is 4.4.5 whereas Kernel Tuner for r91 is 4.4.6. I am now 99% confident that this is the cause of the problem.

That being said, I am surprised that nobody else is having (or reporting) these problems :( I may use Titanium Backup to backup and restore 4.4.5 onto r91 to see if that fixes it. Will I have to uninstall KT then restore, or will Titanium Backup take care of all that for me?

EDIT:

Well, since I installed Kernel Tuner as part of BluRom, I was unable to simply uninstall it. Titanium Backup however was able to get rid of it. However, I was unable to restore the 4.4.5 version. The batch restore showed completed, but no kernel tuner...not even after a reboot. I would try doing a new fresh install of r91 and uncheck kernel tuner, but that isn't going to help me get 4.4.5 back on there, it will only keep me from having to uninstall it. Am I using Titanium Backup incorrectly? Can anyone get me the .apk for 4.4.5?

You could reinstall AdAway? It takes 2 seconds to download/install and 3 seconds to update :)

Is that the same thing as AdFree? Also, how do I install it in /data the way Nega did. I'd also be interested in knowing why it's going into /data. I assume it installed in /system before?

Where do your downloaded apps install to generally speaking? /data?

IMO adaway is better than adfree since it is open source and has been updated to add a new host file source since Google dropped it from the Play Store. By comparison the official adfree page still links to the Play Store. :(

You can download adaway here and sideload it as an apk.

The system apps are installed in /system/app and the user apps in /data/app, unless they are moved to the SD card.
