Hey guys, just a quick query to see if any one can tell me wether TMobile UK have sent out the jelly bean update yet? My brother in law got one his s2 on my suggestion, for Christmas, and he doesn't have a decent enough laptop to upgrade via kies, I do, and although id happily use Odin, his dad can be a bit funny about these things so I was going to keep it all legit as such.

Cheers in advance :)

If he is on CSC code TMU then I'm afraid that there has been no JB release tp-date as per post #2 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide.

Both Orange and T-Mobile only released their last update for ICS a month ago. See, here.

Not actually true i`m on T-Mob in the UK and have been on ICS since November.

Incorrect I'm afraid ukzen! ;)

I said, "their last update for ICS". Not the original ICS release. T-Mobile's original ICS release, Android 4.0.3, for the GT-i9100, was in May 2012. Since then they have released 2 more ICS updates, LPH and LPJ.

I may have mucked up previously,he got his phone through a website ordering it with T-Mobile as the network, it may not be set up as T-Mobile though as it appears he had LPT as his ics firmware, however he has now got it working with jellybean officially rather than through Odin :)

Got ya,so its probably an unlocked phone ,have never mucked about with roms before ,but am really sick of waiting .Who knows with a different rom i might even be able to use Wifi without my phone melting.

might find it beneficial then if you have issues when using Wi-Fi! Ironass s guide in the root section really is easy to follow and if your happy with the phone as stock then the minor tweaks in neat Rom would be good for you!

This is now available as my brother in law was here earlier and his phone alerted him off an ota update which I showed him how to do.... believe it was ms1 or something, it is familiar but I feel that's a modem....any way, he now has jelly bean :)

Saturday night, sntaylor at a party or BBQ, alcohol.... what could go wrong! ;)

I'm guessing that your brother-in-laws phone is not on stock T-Mobile firmware, CSC code TMU, but rather on CPW or XEU or similar, as Orange and T-Mobile UK have still not released a JB update yet. Also, AFAIK, T-Mobile do not do OTA updates... I could be mistaken.

The only way you can be sure about your brother-in-laws firmware is bt entering *#1234# into the dial pad and getting his CSC code.... and take more water with it! ;)

Release date for Jelly Bean on Orange and T-Mobile UK...

PLAN A

Sit tight, chill out and wait for EE to release Jelly Bean, Android 4.*, for the Orange and T-Mobile, UK, GT-i9100's, (maybe), and listen to...

Lo mejor de Enya. (The Very Best of Enya) - YouTube

PLAN B

Extract from post #1 of the, "Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide"...

#1.8. When will JB be available for my CSC code?

That, I am afraid, is still the $64,000 question!

What I can say is that Jelly Bean is, IMHO, worth having. Firmware wise it puts the the SII on a par with the SIII. It brings a lot of new applications and features to the SII.

Update on Jelly Bean releases so far

Five months after the official release of Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, for the SGSII and nearly 70% of all the CSC codes in post #2 have now been updated to JB. In fact, some of these individual CSC codes have now received as many as 5 separate JB updates to give them the latest version of JB. See, #1.9.

Of those CSC codes yet to receive the update to JB, by far the biggest proportion are carrier branded firmware and are the responsibility of the carriers to update. Since the SGSII is now over 2 years old and at its EoL, (End of Life), these carriers may decide to not to spend the time, money and effort on JB support for the SGSII and prefer instead to concentrate on the newer models such as SGS4, SGS3, Note, etc:

So, what do you do if JB has not been released yet for your CSC code?

1. You can, as per #3.6, contact your carrier directly and see if they have any plans for releasing JB for your phone, as Samsung will have sent them the stock, Samsung, JB firmwares over the last 6-8 months and will only be awaiting their return with the added carrier, "bloatware", for release, should those carriers decide to support JB. For non carrier, unbranded, firmware you can contact Samsung who may be waiting for the OK from a country's telecommunications authority before being allowed to release their firmware. Certain Middle Eastern countries are notoriously slow in granting such permissions, for instance.

2. You can flash any of the stock Samsung firmware releases so far for your model of phone and language pack, see #1.1, (all firmwares contain the English language), by carefully reading and following the step-by-step instructions and video in the link in #1.7. Please take the time to read posts #1, #2 and #3 first as they will answer a lot of your questions.

3. Root your phone by carefully reading and following the step-by-step instructions and videos in posts #1, #2, and #3 of the Rooting Galaxy S2 - Dummies Guide and install any of the custom ROM's, (firmware), that are available for the SGSII, including JB, 4.2.2 or the very popular NEAT ROM. If you have any questions about rooting or custom ROM's, see the, "All Things Root", section of the forum.

The choice... is yours!

(Latest stock Samsung Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, firmware for the UK, unbranded is I9100XWLSW_I9100XEULS5_XEU.zip. See disclaimer in #1.7 of the, "Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide")

PLAN C

PM sntaylor, see post #15, who will supply you with the plans and instructions for erecting a 12ft garden shed... to pass the time ;)

The choice... is yours!

Thanks to the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide I am often asked about when such-and-such an operator will release Jelly Bean, particularly for the UK.

Two companies... well, one really, are conspicuous by their absence in the list of Jelly Bean updates for the UK.

Those two are Orange UK and T-Mobile UK, now known collectively as EE, (Everything Everywhere).

These are the only 2 UK carriers who have not released an update to Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2.

Below is a brief history of UK, Jelly Bean, releases together with worldwide Jelly Bean releases to-date for Orange and T-Mobile. This shows that Orange and T-Mobile effectively ceased support for the Samsung Galaxy S2, GT-i9100, nearly 4 months ago or 22 months after its UK release, whilst other carriers continued to support it. It should also be noted that Orange and T-Mobile have released Jelly Bean in other countries and have released it for the GT-i9100P variant in the UK.

Key Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, release dates for the Galaxy S2...

Leaked, unofficial JB firmware release = Nov: 2012

Official JB rollout commences = 23 Jan: 2013

Official Vodafone UK release = 7 Mar: 2013

Official Orange UK & T-Mobile UK update release for ICS, Android 4.0.4 = 14 Mar: 2013 ???

Official Three network UK release = 21 Mar: 2013

Official O2 UK release = 10 Apr: 2013

Official, unbranded, UK firmware release = 10 May 2013

Official Orange UK update to JB for the P, (NFC), variant Galaxy S2 = 21 May 2013

Official CarPhoneWarehouse UK release = 5 Jun: 2013

Worldwide Orange Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, releases...

Israel = 18 Feb 2013

Dominican Republic = 7 Mar: 2013

Romania = 8 Apr: 2013

France = 23 May 2013

Austria = 27 May 2013

Poland = 27 May 2013

Spain = 27 May 2013

Worldwide T-Mobile Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2, releases...

Croatia = 3 May 2013

Netherlands = 7 May 2013

Czech Rep: = 15 May 2013

It would appear that anyone contacting Customer Support are still being given the runaround and told that there will be a release for Jelly Bean or that it is being released by IMEI numbers, (???), or that a mysterious leaked email confirms its release.

Make no mistake... this is not down to Google or Samsung. This is a decision made by Orange/T-Mobile/EE.

Oh i know ironass. I gave up hope a long time ago. In the plus side I have taken to spamming there facebook pages. I might even join twitter just to spam them there also.

It would, in my view, seem that apart from that pathetic excuse of an ICS firmware release in March... when all other UK operators were busy releasing Jelly Bean, Orange/T-Mobile/EE have not supported the Samsung Galaxy S2 with up-to-date releases since September of 2012.

Anyone thinking of renewing their contract or taking up a contract with them, should bear this in mind when it comes to negotiating.
