Hello itchydroid. Welcome to the forums.

There are a few suspicions that come to mind, not the least of which is the sudden difficulties arising because of encryption issues. If it was working ok, then you did a reset and found a connection after a gateway/licensing agreement at a public hot spot, it's possible that the public wifi has snagged priority and needs to be "forgotten" in the settings list of available networks in your device's wifi menu area. Just hit every network except your home one, and when the prompt comes up to "forget," hit that for each one.

Also, when a reset is done, especially in an older device, the encryption may revert to one of the older systems, most likely WEP or WPA instead of WPA2 (of course, if it matches your home router it won't make a difference and a different reason for dropping connection needs to be investigated).

I'd reset the home router, either by internal configuration choice or a special button on the case of the router, or by unplugging its power source for a few minutes. Then I'd reconfigure everything both router and phone.
