Root [Q] Text over wifi

Is that possible at all? Like with the native texting? Same with calling? I know T-Mobile has that working so why haven't other phone company's gotten the ball rolling? Lol!

The only way I know of doing something like this is with google voice or vonage or something of the sort. Im pretty sure there is no way to do it with virgin mobiles built in calling/texting.

i dont have service so i use
groove ip and the native dialer and i paid for a app called messaging+ google voice

that allows the sms messaging over wifi for the google voice account that i sign in too

you have to have google voice installed set it to send voice mail to the dial history
and turn off the notices for text set messaging+ as your defualt

this works for calling over wifi and texting not from your virgin number

and of course you can always just text from the google voice app
but i wanted to do it from a more native app
messaging+ allows to send from the number it came from like its like dual mode if it came from your vm you can send it from that number back
any ways hope that helps
you a lil

I use gmail and send any email directly to the phone number its just like texting except they get a normal sms and you get an email (instant with sync and gmail)

*only thing is you have to know what carrier your (insert relation here) has*

heres a list of extensions to use

Subject: :)

message........blah.......blah

then Send :p its exactly the same, basically free texting (carriers don't want you to know that)

Is there anyway somebody could build an app that does that exact thing but looks more like an SMS app? :]

There's a lot of them in already in the play store just search "free text" :p

But my suggestion would be to make a Google Voice account then get the app "TalkaTone" that way you get unlimited free calling and texting over WiFi

Here's a link Talkatone free calls + texting

Have you used that app?

I currently use a combination of the GrooveIP and Google Voice apps, but that one looks promising. However, the reviews are mixed (3.9 overall) so I'd be interested in any feedback from people that use it on a regular basis.

I don't, but i got that setup for my sister and its exactly like having a cellphone plan (when connected to WiFi) except its free (the app is free too)! IMO its alot more stable then GrooveIP which actually refused to work on her phone (Photon 4G)

Edit: it also works on my old Samsung Intercept :)

Ive used Talkatone + Google Voice for a while now. Alot of people have complained about a slight lag for voice calls, But I have never noticed any lag worse than any cell phone call, Even on 3g. Other than that Its more reliable for texting, Since texts are sometimes delayed before I receive them using the stock phone texting(Must just be Virgin Mobile). Google Voice texting seems to be way more reliable.

If I am going to be texting someone more than calling them, I give them my google number, And if I am going to be talking on the phone to people more then texting, I give them my regular number. :p

So do you let your "texters" call you on your cell phone by having your GV number ring it for incoming calls?

I've got my Evo 3D setup for Sprint integration so it's all one number for me, including voice mail, but I use that number to ring other numbers besides my cell phone.

I have it set up for when they call my Google number, It rings through talkatone, Instead of the "forwarding" thing google can do. If you have it forward to your normal VM number, It still uses your minutes. If you use your Google number through Talkatone, You dont have to worry about minutes, Because it has nothing to do with the VM number. :p Basically its a way around the 300 mins a month.

Google Voice + Talkatone + 3g/4g = unlimited minutes... for 35 a month. :p

This works out even on the road, Because if you dont have service, Your not going to have 3g/4g.. So Your not going to miss any more calls than if they have your VM number.

Edit: To be honest, I am going to start giving everyone my google number, That way if I ever do end up getting a new phone and have to set up a new number on the phone, I dont have to tell everyone the new number. My Google number will always be on whatever phone I have. Plus you can set it to ring your house phone at the same time, That way you can answer your calls on whatever phone is convenient.
