Hello all i just registered this forum because I had the sd card unmouting on my s3 yesterday.
I want to add that my wifes s3 also had the same problem about a month or two ago.
First I want to apologize because my post will be long.
Anyway my wife and I each bought the s3 on black friday week 2012 and I bought two 32gb sandisk ultra from amazon right on black friday. She has verizon and I have T-mobile.
She experienced the issue first. I removed the micro sd and tried to insert it in the micro sd reader and my pc would not see it at all. It appeared dead. Well I was persistent and finally i decided to get my old blackberry bold. Inserted the micro sd and it recognized it with all the files in it. After the BB recognized it, then my pc card reader was able to read it. So i backed up the stuff (mainly pictures, since we have our phones to save pics and vids on the external sd), I reformatted the card (fat32, as it was before) and put the pics back. She hasn't had issues since. I tought maybe it was an app causing the issue, but yesterday out of the blue, my phone said that the sd unexpectedly unmounted. Now my mistake with mine was to remove it and reinsert it back on the s3. Big mistake because what happened was that all my pictures got dumped in the lost.dir folder. Then i tried to insert it in my BB Bold and it wanted to format it but couldn't, it would give me a fatal error. Then i insert it in my pc card reader and it could only see 30.6MB out of the 32GB. So my pc would say if i wanted to format my card to 30.6MB. After i would press ok, it would say the card was locked and could not format. I then used a different micro sd reader, one that is basically just usb to microsd. And magically it was reading it. The only problem is that all my pics and vids got dumped in the lost.dir folder. So since yesterday I have been using a recovery tool to recover my pics and vids. It has been about 10 hours so far and it says another 4 hours to go.
My sggestion if it happens is, remove it from the s3, try to find a device that can read it, like a BB phone or a simple usb to microsd reader. Don't give up, especially if you have important stuff.
In the meantime, whether it's the phone, or the card, or a jellybean issue, maybe we ought to just come up with best ways to back up all the stuff whether via a software or via cloud (which i don't prefer). Just the simplest, yet most efficient way of backing up all the suff.
I for now will simply connect the phone to the pc once a week and copy all the new pics to my pc.
