SwiftKey: why can't I type the word "I"?

Well that's the thing. The prediction (the word in the middle) is "I", not "II", so when I press the space bar, shouldn't it replace whatever I typed (which happens to be "I") with that selection (which is also "I")? Instead, it seems to append the selection to what I already typed.

What happens if you actually press the middle word instead of the space bar?

I set up my SwiftKey to turn auto-correct off. If I press the space bar, it doesn't change the word I typed. I generally type the word and then select the word in the prediction list.

If I press the "I" word, then it inserts "I" correctly. But this is inconvenient because I type fast (hoping SwiftKey will correct me) and I don't often look at the predictions.

I find that with all auto correct features, there will be some instances where it will be wrong about what word to choose. That is why I always have auto correct off and always select the predicted word. I actually use the centre predicted word as my space bar, so I can see what word it will choose. Just pretend the centre corrected word is your space bar and you may be able to catch incorrect predictions. I assume you are looking at the keys as you type, so just look at the predicted word instead of the space bar when you finish a word.

But in this case, the center predicted word IS "I", and it still changes what I type to "II"
