Tmobile-MetroPCS Merger Updates & Questions

Just to add, LTE is already available but spotty in Miami and the subway in New York is almost fully covered

On Metro or on TMo 4G? Cause on Metro its extremely spotty...its amazingly fast at my job, beating out other LTE phones, but at home I have to put my phone in CDMA mode because it can barely keep a connection.

Tmobile 4GLTE, barely ever see anything but 4G here in South FL
To get some clarification when you say 4G are you meaning LTE?

I ask because t mobile and att started calling hspa+ 4G, and while it does have speeds seen with LTE its not truly 4G.
So to eliminate confusion just call LTE=LTE metro, tmo or which ever network. Then 4g can be hspa.:D

Here in Tampa we were last to get lte which took for ever for us while the other big cities had lte we waited for like 3 more months it was bad and it was due to mcdill afb spectrum, I remember n4zty had an Samsung craft and to see the 4g icon he had to drive to Orlando lol :p:D
But on a serious note patience my fellow north florida peeps

I would say HSPA. Im more technical than most and HSPA isnt capable of 4G speeds so its not 4G to me.

Calling it LTE is clearer, but LTE doesn't mean speed. They can just stuff twice as many bits through the tubes (your available number of tubes may vary). My LTE service just got up to a whopping 2.99 Mbps this week. It had been around 1.6 Mbps prior. Sprint 3G for me was 1.8 Mbps and WiMax was around 10 - 12 Mbps.

Calling HSPA+ 4G was only ever branding in response to Verizon 4G advertisements. LTE and WiMax are the only 4G technologies.

I've always looked it as I don't care what the hell the network is called, I care about how fast it runs. 10mbps on HSPA+ and 10mbps on LTE is still 10mbps. People crying about how HSPA+ isn't "real" 4G but yet HSPA+42 is one of if not the fastest data network on average out right now.

But I really hope Metro benefits from the merger. I still have my doubts though :/

For the time being they're equal and thats only because HSPA uses double the spectrum to get LTE equivalent speeds. Just wait till next year when T-Mobile is fully embedded in the LTE game that'll show everybody what LTE is truly capable of.

This is true. LTE is not even near their capabilities and that's due to it being relatively new.

The future is going to be amazing with the technology that's coming. :D

Unless Google really is skynet. Then we're all screwed. lol

Honestly nothing deployed so far as actually met the original 4G standard, T-Mobile's LTE is the first one that actually has the potential to actually meet the standard. However for various reasons the organization changed the standard for calling something 4G so yes HSPA+ is 4G just like all these LTE networks are 4G even though they don't meet the standard.
Honestly all that matters though is what the providers give us and if it meets our needs, regardless of what they call it or what the technology is. So can we really stop the, "That's not REALLY 4G" arguments already?

He asked about clarification. I gave some.

But I agree that the name or method shouldn't matter. Just make it fast, readily available, and no caps or throttling. The new T-Mobile/Metro network plans look good.

I dont think it was directed towards you but just in general. It's something people have been saying since LTE deployed.

Speed is what matters to me. Not the damn name of the network. :D

I sure I'm not saying this the correct technically geekmo way but,

Speed's far from the most important thing to me. I've half joked about the Big Whanger Speed tests. :p

I want whatever it takes in the spectrum for the signal to be Strong and Consistent and Widespread in that geographical area. Too many stories of Metro having 6 Mps here and Zippo 5 miles away. Or, when I can pull in 3-4 Mps in a Speedtest and still the damn pages take too long to load 5 seconds later.

You only need as much speed as you can use, I'd rather have lower speeds be available more consistently in wider areas.

Quantity over quality I agree but the ones that do complain about it are the ones that don't have a home network or are following a fad in terms of speed just to say haha my 4g is faster than yours and really never uses it...... Those that are casual mobile data users like me only rarely need to check an email someone sent me or check a YouTube video out. I'll admit I was a data hog few months back but when I got my verizon fios back all that changed lol.
