Just a quick heads up.

[edit] The recent (late April/early May) 4.1.2 update OTA may not be compatible with the posted "Casual" one-click root method.. we're looking into it and will post our findings here and in the sticky.

I have the same question. Just picked up a note 2 yesterday and it has the newest update with 4.1.2. Was wondering if this method will still work as well. Thanks.

Im wondering the same . I already downgraded, did the update, then tried to root again using casual. ..and it bricked my phone ...couldn't do anything to fix it either ...any clues to what I can do ?

When you say bricked, what exactly do you mean? Is it stuck in a bootloop, or it won't even turn on?

It kept flashing the Samsung logo ....then I couldn't get odin to recognize my phone

Now after getting a new phone and installing the update to 4.1.2 , my computer wont recognize my phone as a usb device :-(

I would not attempt that one-click method following that recent update until we're certain it's ok.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to note that in the sticky as soon as I finish this post.

After that, I'll look into it further and post an update on this whole thing.

Why wont my computer see my phone and let me access the sd card ?

(Assuming the settings are correct on your phone) the latest Samsung drivers must be installed on your computer:

Download Center: Download Software, Firmware, Drivers & Manuals | Samsung <--- Go here and follow the model/name etc text fields.

already installed those, and usb debugging is clicked....im so frustrated :thinking:

I'm use to HTC but have found since getting this note 2 that I have to update kies regularly for my pc to recognize this thing.

Wrt the one-click root "casual" method being ok with the recent OTA, all we know at this time (via posts in the XDA thread where the one-click root method was the OP) is that rooting via that method will allow the OTA to download but it will not allow the OTA to install:

..literally about a thousand posts in.

..still reading for references to the "other way around,": will the method work with the OTA already installed. I'm beginning to doubt it, but we know how XDA devs jump on this stuff.

I'll contact the "casual" dev via email. If anybody reading in here finds out, don't hesitate to educate us!

[edit] I've sent an email to the "casual" one-click root dev with our question about this.

I had a similar issue in Friday night. I tried the one click after the update.

I had to re update the drivers, use the usb cord that came with phone, and try about a hundred times before my pc finally recognized the phone. I actually had to point to the Samsung driver through device manager, and recategorize it from a serial gadget to a phone.

I had to then go onto odin mode and reinstall the pit file. I'm not even sure what that is, but it worked. I thought I had totally hosed my phone but it is back in action!

How exactly did you point the drivers to the "Samsung android" that shows up in my device list ? Ive tried everything. ...I even cwlled Verizon (useless) . I can't even access my phone storage or sd card :-(

One other thing I had to do was go onto the task manager and shut off all instances of kies.

The one click was what lead to my phone getting stuck in boot loop. I got root, but it froze up in the middle of the process, and it reboot into boot loop.

And I reinstalled the usb drivers yesterday, even though I already had them installed from earlier in the week.

Same thing happened to me ...got a replacement already and updated to 4.1.2 ....now im afraid to try re rooting until its confirmed thwt its working again. What can I do to get my pc to see my phone again? Anyone? ?

It says something like "Samsung android" , but when I pull up the properties, It doesnt have a device name or model...it says unknown :-( ugh
