Network vision & LTE rollout

The Sprint coverage map shows that I am in the middle of a 4G LTE zone - but the phone shows only '3G' (or WiFi when that is on). The phone is set for "LTE/CDMA" and "Connections Optimizer" is checked.

I guess that mapping folk are ahead of the folk who turn on the system's functionality.

Uncheck connection optimizer and toggle airplane mode.

Feels like rollout has stalled around my office in Manhattan.:banghead:

I don't have Sprint but I do work for a building where they have a tower on the Hudson River (Jersey side). I can tell you no work has been done yet but about a month or 2 ago several subcontractors came to confirm what equipment Sprint currently has in their doghouse. From what they told me they're coming back in June to strip out Nextel equipment and start the LTE upgrade. This is gonna be a pretty big job including redoing cabling raceways, racks, and adding new antennas.

I grabbed a quick screen shot! It was a fleeting glimpse while I was driving to the park today. On the way home it popped up again but wouldn't transmit and data. I'm so excited I have heard anything about it coming to Wilmington DE yet

You want to really pay attention to your Sensorly settings. Otherwise it can really drain your battery. You can specify a percentage of power it will use per day. Also you can set a threshold to tell Sensorly not to do any scans below a certain percentage of power left on your battery.

Also I noticed at first it was waking my screen every time it did a scan. You change a toggle in the settings that so that the screen won't wake when there is a scan. That will save more power too.

I think it's great that there is an app that tests signal strength in real time using real usage. It showed me just how pathetic Sprint 3g is in my area and explained a lot of the issues I was having. It also showed me which carrier I could go to so I could get better coverage if I wanted it.

I hope they get their 4G up and running in Central Jersey soon. My 3G speeds are horrific. I'm a little disappointed in myself that I renewed my contract to get a new phone. The data speeds are certainly close to unusable. I only stuck with them thanks to the good pricing and unlimited data, but that data is no good to me when I can't even load web pages.

Hurry up Sprint!

Markets - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

Thanks! I check that site regularly, and I see that Central Jersey got bumped from a 2nd round market to a 1st round, and that it is scheduled by the end of 2013. I just hope that estimate is correct, as it was originally supposed to be here Q1 this year.

My other concern is that people with Sprint LTE say their speeds are still horrific especially with traffic. Central Jersey is incredibly populated and Sprint's networks are ALWAYS bogged down, so I'm hoping that I can get better then .50mb/s down and .05mb/s up.

On my usual daily commute to work I was listening to Pandora via my Galaxy S3 (rooted, running Carbon 1.7) through Chevy's MyLink. At first, I was listening to standard FM radio when I decided to put on Pandora. I switched over to the built-in app via my car's touchscreen. The app loaded just fine and started playing per usual.

After a few songs on one station, I swapped over to another. One song started to play, I skipped it, another started and finished. Upon finishing, Pandora remained on that song with the progress bar at the end. After waiting a few moments I exited the application (via my phone) and tried reloading it. Pandora would not sign on. I restarted my phone. Same problem.

When I got to work I checked out the reception. I had max bars for 4G so I tried to load Facebook. A network error appeared so I switched over to 3G and tried Facebook again. This time it loaded with success.

I've had this happen once before, but I wasn't sure if maybe anyone else in the area was experiencing the same issues?

Also, since I am using an AOSP ROM, I do not have Sprint's options to update PRL, Profile, etc. anymore. Does anyone happen to know if I would still be able to update those factors?

Thanks!

Edit: Attempted 4G again and it seems to work now. I have minimal reception in my office, but 1 bar of 4G was present and I attempted Facebook, again, with success.
