Sprint vs Verizon - billing and roaming ??

Need to switch from Tmobile to either sprint or verizon. No ATT due to poor android selection. I get 20% off Verizon and 23% off Sprint from work. I need only internet and around 450 minutes. It adds up to around 55 for both carriers.

With sprint I'd get texting but I haven't sent or received a text in years. Also calling any mobile. Concern here is extra charges from roaming especially data/texting charges. Sprint coverage is excellent in the Seattle area though. Mostly just stick to the city and suburbs.

With Verizon I would just disable texting like I do now and only pay for 450 minutes plus data. Having heard horror stories about Verizon billing I would really be nervous about anything extra.

I only use about 200-300 minutes so 450 is fine. My big choice between the two is extra costs. I really do not like surprises on my bills. Between the two which would actually stay within the price limit assuming I don't go over on minutes?

The $69.00 plan is just that. You will get everything unlimited with 450 minutes I believe. You won't have to worry about any roaming charges on that plan. Plus you could possibly get a corporate discount if your company is in the groups that they offer it for. Or a ten percent discount if you belong to a credit union. If none of these apply to you then your bill would be $69.00 plus tax every month.

Seems I've heard (somewhere) that "while roaming"....it subtracts from your minutes.

Seems I also read somewhere that either the Free and Clear America or Fair and Flexible America was a $5 monthly charge, and that would eliminate the worry about ANY roaming charges or concerns.....

Free&Clear and Fair&Flexible are really old Sprint plans. I think if you have them, you're grandfathered into them, but if you're not in them, you can't go to them.

Also keep in mind that those plans existed long before smartphones. I think that even pre-dates traditional SMS (Sprint was using PCS Mail for a long time, before they finally jumped on the SMS bandwagon).

Under the current Simply Everything plans, the most I would expect to lose while roaming in the USA, is the mobile-to-mobile calling. In that case, it would go against your plan minutes, or night/weekend if it applies.

I use to be a sprint rep for big Government accounts and use to do RPA (Rate Plan Analysis) all day long. The 69.99/plan is the best to go. 450 anytime minutes and free anytime mobile AS LONG as YOU are on the Sprint network. All landline incoming and out going plus calls made when you roaming go against your minutes. The discount of 23% basically covers all the extra fees and taxes they nickle and dime out of you. So your bill will be right around 65.00/month. I have 5 lines on my sprint account using the 1500 minute plan. We talk over 6000 minutes a month and never get anywhere close to the 1500 anytime minutes. Nor do we monitor when or who we call. It's just simply the best plan out there.

With the basic of all basic VZW plans your talking about, you dont get Visual Voicemail, SMS, Nights and weekends dont start til 9, no free mobile to mobile any carrier, etc...

Sprint should be cheaper hands down for you. Try it out and see if it works. If so great if not so great try VZW.

I thought I read somewhere that Sprint was doing a 30 day no risk trial now. If you are a new customer and decide you don't like Sprint for any reason they will let you out of your contract and refund all money. No restocking fees, no termination fees, no anything. If they are really offering that, you almost have to try Sprint first and then if you don't like them just move to Verizon within the 30 days.
