how old is your router?

Hi,
Maybe you can try out a few things:
- Can you check your router settings to see if anything might prevent the internet connection? (By the way, just to inform you: WEP-security is terribly outdated and not safe, if possible you should use at least WPA, WPA2 is better!)
- What does your phone report when you try connecting to the internet?
- Is there a possibility for you to check if it's only a problem with your home wifi or also somewhere else?

I made it WEP because i thought it is the problem or the reason i am not connecting to internet.Lol. ok i am changing it back..
"no connection, Retry" is what it says.. i haven't tried it yet from others because it's new..let's say it work in others.. Do you know what could be the problem? is it because of my router?

I've thought about the MAC-filtering. Only since in the problem setting it was said that connection with the router worked but without the internet connection, I figured that couldn't be the problem.
Still no idea about how to solve it. Another thing that puzzles me: after changing security to WPA, connection failed due to wrong security.
So: question for Andreid31: did you change the security in your router settings or in your phone?? It should be changed in the router menu, then after that make the new connection in your phone.
You were asking what to do if everything does work properly using someone else's wifi. Well, let's just take that step first and don't give any possibilities now. It can still be all kinds of things.
So: 1. If possible, try someone else's wifi. 2. Make sure the security settings in your router menu is the same as the settings you make in your phone. 3. Just to be sure (like Socrates said): also in the router menu check if there's a MAC-filtering that prevents your phone from connecting properly (if that is the problem: add the MAC of your phone in the router menu). 4. You might try to make the phone "forget" your wifi network and settings and try all over again.

Anyway i tried it in other's wifi and yes it worked..i could do fb just fine.
@socrates0 i tried it earlier no security, then with wep ,then with wpa. still no connection but it says connected to wifi. except wpa where it says disabled..means it does not connect at all.
about macfilters i read about that..does it only work with mobile? and i am tinkering through the router settings i have yet to see a setting that enables or disables this feature if it is indeed my problem..
i am open to all options.

@Marcha i change the security in my router settings and reconnected on my phone..it says "disabled, secured with wpa/wpa2 psk"
1. tried it. it works.
2. settings in my phone? what do you mean? is it when i used static ip and enter ip ad, gateway, and subnet? or are there other settings i should know.
3. i can't see it anywhere.. i see the part where you have to input mac addresses but i don't see a setting which allows for this. plus i am using the quick set up wizard so i don't really know.
4. i make it a habit that everytime i update my router settings i forget the network and reconnect..

@all thanks for the replies. I hope this could be solved. if you still have suggestions i'd be willing to try it all..just wanna make this work

If your phone is connected but you are not being able to browse then it could be the DNS settings in your phone I think its by default set to auto but you could manually insert DNS entries in the phone. Menu->Settings->Wifi settings->press sub menu button left of home button->Advanced->Enter your DNS entries.
eg: Open DNS is
208.67.220.220
208.67.222.222

Hopefully this should get it working :)

@ socrates0 tried it. but it does not work.. another update. it seems that when i put it to wpa it keeps on scanning then it gets disconnected with my network saying "disabled, secured with wpa/wpa2 psk" but it keeps on scanning..then wifi displays disconnected then scanning..i don't know if it helps. ive asked others they said that the router is just fine with the quick setup..as thats what they did with theirs and it works fine..so i'm still clueless..

Only other thing I can think of, is that for some reason your router firmware is not compatible with you phone. It sounds farfetched but a cousin of mine had this problem (I was trying to help him with the setup) when he bought a Linksys wifi router & then found the wifi card on his laptop was not compatible with the firmware of his router. This was solved when we found a firmware upgraded for his wifi router firmware. Just check if your wifi router has a firmware update, if so then update it & try again.

Could you also specify the specific model number etc DSL 2730u & your location

Andreid31,
I don't think there's anything wrong with your phone's settings, since everything worked fine using someone else's wifi.
Personally, I think the problem is your router. Somehow there must be a conflict between router and phone. Menu of routers is different, hard to point you into the right direction. I think the best way would be checking the settings manually. In most router menus there's a tab or something comparible called "Wireless". In there check all the options. Somewhere you can find if it says WPA or WPA2 with the network key. This must be the same as the one in your phone. Then somewhere you will find the possibility to add MAC-addresses for the devices you want to access your router. Mind: sometimes it gives you the option for blocking instead of adding! In that case: leave the fields empty.
Still something I don't understand from what you have told us: you said: "i tried it earlier no security, then with wep ,then with wpa. still no connection but it says connected to wifi. except wpa where it says disabled..means it does not connect at all." Now: is it or isn't connected to wifi? In your first post you said you had wifi connection, no internet connection, I don't understand anymore!
And frankly, I don't know if your habit of making your router forget the network and reconnect again after every update is such a good idea, specially if you are using quick setup instead of manual setup. It's possible that quick setup is causing standard settings that mess up your connection.
Long story. It all comes down to the fact that I believe there is a discrepancy between your router and your phone. With someone else's wifi obviously everything works fine, so that is the only conclusion I can get out of this. Try and find a router manual of your type on the internet and follow the steps.

@ Marcha it says connected to wifi. except wpa where it says disabled..means it does not connect at all.. yes it does sound weird lol..i am saying that with no security and with wep.. it says "connected". With wpa it says "disabled, secured with wpa/wpa2 psk" instead of connected..ok i will try maybe id ask for costumer support first..thanks

@socrates0 i know don't about firmwares and as for updates hmmm. i can't remember any updates if there is that i missed..i'd check it in their site. thanks

Update.. when i check through the logs of my router.. It says "Authentication Failed" then says the mac address of my phone tried googling but i find none close to my situation..i tried costumer support of dlink and still no answer.

I could not understand the part made bold above, could you elaborate on that.

BTW Do you use any other gadget via wifi if not then I suggest that you reset your wifi router & start from scrarch. In one of my posts above I had asked for the full model name/number of your unit :) dlink n150 is very generic.

@socrates0 well the post i made is about the logs is from the activity logs of the router..which tells if something (mac address in this case my phone) is trying to connect..and other things(hackers trying to hack, portscans, bots) and so far with wpa security it says "Authentication Failed". but with wep it is fine..i forgot what it says. but it is confirmed to be connected but still i can't use the internet..i also tried a fix which says to change wireless mode from B/G/N to B/G..still nothing..

yes im sorry for that its dlink n150 dir-600l..i have not used any other..ok i will try and reset again but when i do, is it ok if i do quick setup wizard? will it be ok?
now i remember you saying about updating firmware. ive already done it to no avail.. still waiting on activating an account for dlink just to ask something..pfff..i'm stumped. it just takes so much time. but i know it will be worth it..thanks.

@socrates0 i did it. router reset..then phone factory reset.connected again but with no internet..i summoned everyone i know it seems no one can solve my issue..i read something that usual cases like this is because of a firmware update.i already updated but still nothing..

@Marcha yes the example i used is when i was using WPA..am i supposed to enter the network key as password there?

update.. i manage to get it to work for a few seconds (or milliseconds) lol..it opened google only..lol. i really thought i was about to have a good time..:)

I'm afraid I'm out of possible solutions. Weird that you managed to get connected to the internet for just a very short time! Maybe Socrates has any other options? If he doesn't, do you have the possibility to have someone take a look at your system (phone and router)?
Sorry I can't help you any further. Good luck!!

Guess I have hit a dead end too. I was hoping that resetting the router to factory specs would help the other option is try some other DNS entries;
Comodo DNS
156.154.70.22
156.154.71.22
Google DNS
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
I know it was done before but didn’t help but that was before resetting the router. The problem narrows down to your router as your phone connects on other networks.
BTW do other gadgets in your house connect properly to your router?

@socrates0 yes other gadgets connect poorly i also have an LGE400 android which has the same problems as my samsung galaxy ace.. i have not tried it on a laptop so far..im guessing it would connect..tried the dns it does not work..yes i also think router might be the problem..i was wondering if you guys know any sites i could ask for help..googling points me to things which i have already tried..the router being the problem is also not so common in google..i am currently waiting for my dlink account to be activated before i can post in their site..bummer right? lol..:) Thanks
