Hi,

Well this is odd as I can't find the original thread on this site pertaining to my subject line. I was at the local ATT Store here in Seattle earlier today and we did find a thread on this subject. Now, however, I can't find it so please excuse if this is a second post on the matter.

In short, my new HTC One phone kicks a fair amount of butt but what does not kick butt is the fact that when I am viewing a .PDF with an all white background or using a browser and the web page background is all white or if I am reading a Word .DOC the screen will kind of shimmer and shake.

I took it into the local shop and they turned off auto brightness, which helped a tad, and then they suggested I turn of power save mode. The later helped the most but what bums me out is this new, otherwise awesome phone, has to run in non powersave mode so I can not see this shimmering affect.

From what I read earlier others are experiencing this issue. Please chime in with what you have experienced and hopefully the good folks at HTC can issue a patch soon to address this.

Thanks,

Johnny Fever.

hello,

people "chiming in" here will not fix the problem. a ticket needs to be made into HTC directly.

if you have not already done so, send htc an email and get a ticket started. share the ticket number here and when others see/experience this, they too can call in or submit a ticket. the more people who talk to HTC directly the sooner a fix will be made.

HTC do not read these forums.

All that said, ive a stock non rooted sprint model and i have the same flicker/gradual dim issue. i never ever use power save and the issue was happening from day one. I have seen reports of this on another forum but not much activity was in that thread.

using swype or an on screen keyboard will make it more pronounced as well.

Mine was flickering right out of the box since auto brightness comes configured to be on (Power Saver options may come configured on too). I was in a room with a bare incandescent overhead light bulb and an off white wall directly behind me.
I NEVER use power saver and I immediately turned off Auto brightness and went to full brightness, as always part of my initial set up, and I haven't really seen any significant flickering since. Though I haven't had alot of time actually using the device.

I think auto brightness was being over active and trying to over correct the screen brightness based on the lighting level of the white wall behind me.

Many of my previous Android devices had a program to perpetually show the clock on the screen as if it were a screen saver. I am not seeing this functionality. Is there an option on the device for this? It used to be near the alarm settings. Not looking to download an app for this. It would be nice if we could get something like this if it does not exist The app would have a black background for power savings and just plain white numbers for displaying the time.

i use swiftkey and set the delay to something like 250ms to activate the alt keys.
you get a good sized kb and you save screen real estate.
if you really have to input a lot of numbers, just use num lock.

I have passwords with numbers and letters, it would be nice if I don't have to switch between numbers and chars frequently. Will look at swiftkey too.

Well, I just wanted to check back in and say that my HTC One is humming right along now that I have turned off PowerSave Mode. Since that has been off I haven't noticed any issues with this flicker on a white background.

Also, I should note here that HTC Support has been very nice and helpful. I think I am just going to email them back and say I am good to go.

Hope this helps someone else out who may have been experiencing this issue. It's a great phone.

This.

FWIW, I stumbled across a way to force the flickering:

I have HOLO LAUNCHER HD installed, but, this can likely be simulated w/any aftermarket launcher.

Anyhoo,I enjoy using BLINKFEED,but, the stock SENSE desktop/drawer leave a lot to be desired,so, I created a shortcut to go directly from SENSE Desktop to the HOLO LAUNCHER HD app drawer & more often than not, the flickering started, only while in the app drawer & would continue until I exited the HOLO LAUNCHER HD app drawer. A second shortcut from SENSE Desktop to HOLO LAUNCHER HD Desktop didn't have the flickering, just the shortcut from SENSE to HOLO HD app drawer. At no other time do I have this flickering.

Just wanted to share this in hopes that it is indeed a software glitch that'll be addressed as marctronixx eluded to.

As a rule,if you can disable an app,it shouldn't* have any ill effects on other apps.

It's actually a nice compromise of having the option,as you can't really hurt anything.

*If you do see some undesirable effects, just work backward from the previous apps that you disabled until everything is running as desired once again.

EDIT: Just to clarify,we are speaking only of disabling apps, not deletion of apps,on a stock un-rooted phone.

Finally got mine, stumbling thru best as I can. I'm on Sprint. I don't even see its possible to delete Facebook or Twitter which I don't use. Is this carrier specific or am I just missing something? With my music and the apps I've downloaded already I have about 6 gigs left. I will use OTG for movies but want to get rid of anything possible to save space. Thanks in advance.
