Droid Does??? Help fix Bluetooth and Voice Dialing!

So.

When I bought the phone i found out within a few hours it couldn't do this. I took it back in that day and all the reps were dumbfounded by this.... (launch day)

A few months later my gf decides she wants a droid... i warned her about the flaws. Just for fun i asked the reps specifically about hands free voice dialing when i went in with her... They played dumb still! I quickly called them out on it and they back peddled with update promises...

Today! I ran into a sales rep for t-mobile... he went on and on about how much better his nexus one was... regardless, i asked him if he could use his blutooth headset to voice dial... yes! he says... lol. (it can't for those who don't know)

The Point: They know very well of the problem and are trained to ignore and or lie about it. I really don't know what the big deal is. Maybe google expects that to be handled by the blue tooth device exclusively as in phone book downloads.... For now headsets don't seem to have this ability. only the larger hands free and car built in devices with phone book download do.... lame. I want my smart phone to do what every other "dumb" phone that I've had can do.

Ok, So One would think that there is a conspiracy of silence on this BT VD issue by Google and Moto and HTC. Bluetooth dialing handsfree works fine with my LG 8360 and Plantronics Noice Canc BTooth. Heck I went kayaking recently with my phone in ziplocks and could make and receive calls without taking the phone out of my zippered life jacket. My Verizon Expired contract date is tomorrow... I'm inclined to wait before getting the Droid Inc.
In all these posts here and at google: Issue 1181 - android - [VoiceDial] Voice confirmation for Voice Dialer - Project Hosting on Google Code There has been no official explanation. Why is that. Because of the length of time, I suspect that it may never be possible to do BT VD with the Android OS. Might just have to wait until ATT buys tower space here in Maine so I can get an iPhone.

Looks like the real deal according to this Nexus One owner...

There is something a little disturbing about this screen shot. A BT voice dialer should just work, without using the screen. What if the phone is in your trouser pocket, and you're driving? Then activating BT voice dialing would make the screen turn on and start accepting input, and who knows what input it will interpret with the phone's face pressed against your thigh. I hope my concern is unfounded, because this lack of BT voice dialer is my only real problem with my Moto Droid. I'm just not going to get my hopes up too high, since for the past 18 months, Google has not even publicly acknowledged that the problem exists... and now suddenly they fixed it! With that said, I am impatiently waiting for Froyo. There seems to be a lot of other great benefits, regardless of the presence or absence of BT voice dialer.

According to one of the Nexus One threads, it works just as it should (on 2.2). Tap the bluetooth headset to activate and make calls.

Guess We'll have to wait and see, but sounds promising.

NOPE! It doesn't work! It will dial from the bluetooth but it gives no confirmation through the BT. I have a new Galaxy S II 4G and I talked to T-Mobile, and several forums and it just won't work right. It is STILL a very dangerous app to use in a car. Why? Because when you try to use it while driving down the interstate at 70+ MPH, you may have to fiddle with the phone to complete the call or cancel a wrong number. Very few people will stop, and pull over just to make a call. You get extremely exasperated trying to use a feature on a phone that you probably paid big bucks for, and make stupid mistakes. It only takes one mistake to cancel a cell phone account forever. Without full control of the phone, it is a failure and very dangerous for car hands free use. If I knew how, I would start a class action suite to make them fix something they are obviously going to ignor (forever). 2cents

PS. I replaced a Samsung Behold with this phone. The Behold worked perfectly most of the time.

Your Droid will wakeup from a locked state in your pocket and dial from the headset without you unlocking or touching the phone?

It's my understanding that Android/google never fully fixed the "locked" handset issue.

Sorry, this is a section for the Droid 1 and when they went to Froyo, it works with my bluetooth headset. You might want to ask around in the Samsung forums. The original Droid is pure Android so if it doesn't work, Samsung broke it!

Depends. I have two cheap a2dp headsets. One can start a voice command app when locked.

The other not only won't start an app while locked, it won't start a voice app at all. The button is one that I can't recall the acronym for, but it starts the Music app when pressed. Yet, it answers the phone and allows the phone just fine when someone calls in.
