A week or so ago I was able to connect my G1 to my laptop... no problem.

Still, I tried to do it today, and my computer says the G1 is an "unknown device". The phone will charge, but I am unable to access the SD card. Could the recent update have caused this to stop working?

Please help.

Try to read your sdcard in another card reader ...

One thing that helps sometimes ... is to copy everything off the sdcard and reformat it as FAT32 and then but your files back on it ... this might help...

Remember that the factory image for the G1 or MyTouch will not work with the Android tether app. The factory image lacks the NAT kernel modules to support the tethering. You will need to replace your factory image with a rooted image.

Someone correct me if I'm not aware of a factory image alternative to tethering that doesn't include rooting the device.

according to the Developers of PDANET:

PdaNet has been one of the most popular software for Windows Mobile phones, Palm OS phones and the iPhone. It is now ported to the Android system! PdaNet provides you with FULL Internet access so all your email, instant message programs will work without any setting changes. Just like the old PdaNet, it is as simple as clicking on the PdaNet tray icon and your computer will go online instantly.

PdaNet does NOT require root access or hacking your phone's firmware in order to work. It is just a regular Android application that works on Android phones as-is. Currently PdaNet supports USB tethering on all Android OS's and devices. Tethering is fast, secure and will also charge your phone at the same time. Your phone can either connect to 3G data or WiFi, even through VPN and PdaNet will share the connection with your computer.
