Verizon to release Major update for S3

The caller id feature was active in my account, yet I did nothing for it to be. Suggest people go into their account and remove the feature, unless you want it and the $3 a month charge after the free trial.

There appears to be a lot of people having the same signal, performance and battery issues. Verizon appears to have Trojan horsed us with services for them and features for Samsung. Such an update almost one year into the device life now makes more sense. Why throw money for dev work on the device otherwise? Verizon is not known for charity to customers.

That reminds me, I got an email last night "confirming" my account changes. I did absolutely no changes. Now I better check my account and get rid of this change.

Ain't caller ID part of basic service? I'm sure I've always had it. I haven't upgraded but I have it listed as part of my "Current Features" set.

Edit: Never mind - have been enlightened by re-finding the link on pg 1 of this post.

If I could go back, I would not have updated. The S3 overall performed better before the update.
According to this current thread http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/725458-multi-window-update.html the rooted updated stock ROM has been available for a month at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 Are they having the same problems with this upgrade I wonder?

a couple more annoying things I've noticed is the 4g icon stays at the top even when I'm connected to wifi. I've never seen that before.

also, I once again get the notification that my headphones are connected when I plug them in, and can't find an option to shut it off.
Here is the FIX to that issue.
Go to Settings>Application Manager>Scroll to your right to ALL>Scroll down to Caller Name ID and DISABLE it, problem solved.

All I know is the S3 went from great, to a signal challenged, more battery using, higher temp running mess. I called tech support, but nothing can be done until when if an update fixes the issues.

I guess I git fairly lucky with this update. I'm getting a 49ms ping, 3.79Mbps down and 2.83Mbps upload on two bars of 4g. My battery did die hella fast today though.
My non-update data speeds are 23 Mbps down and 8.3 Mbps up on 3 bars. This is double my WiFi download speeds on my G routers. Bout time to get some new routers, and I guess I've got good speed here, though I don't use it.

Guess I'll skip the update for now.

Exactly. On a bad day I'd get 10Mbps down, now half the time I can't even get the speedtest app to finish the ping test before it gives me a network error.

This crap and the rest of the utter BS coming from Verizon (completely removing Blocking Mode altogether??) in this update is making me think I may not sign another contract with them.

Good idea. I wish I had done the same.

Who would have thought that after several stable updates in the life of the device, they would screw the last one up a year later? They wanted to add more bloat for services and help pimp Samsung's new features in order to lure people to the S4- Good luck with that and it's 9GB of storage. Some of us at least are not lured by pretty shiny things and prefer more app storage. Though in this case, it ain't even pretty or shiny. Just a screwed up update with features not even working correctly.

Multi window is a resource hogging mess.

More bloat

F'd up radios

Warmer running device that uses more battery when the device is used.

Everyone here needs to realize that Verizon's LTE speeds have been getting worse for everyone, do to them having many more LTE subscribers since the network was initially put up, they are running out of spectrum, but of course will not let the public know about it. Hopefully when they employ their AWS spectrum later this year it will alleviate some of the strain their network is experiencing.

The issue in relation to the sudden radio problems is not a system bottleneck, but a screwed up update. That said, 3g is worse probably by design, since they want people busting their comically near criminally low data caps even quicker.

Surely people appreciate the irony of 4G and 2gb data caps. FCC golf buddies with VZW carrier execs? ;)

Dumb newbie question....I see several of you asking if you can refuse or reject the update. I have never yet had an update forced on my phone. The updates are out there, but I have to go and get them if I want them. I'm not complaining, just wondering why. My phone is not rooted, Verizon network. I have no special settings or apps enabled. Like I said, I'm a dumb newbie. I don't even know how some of the special features work.

You can accept it by pressing "OK", "Delay" it but you have to enter a day and time to download it, or "Reject" it. If you reject it, you will see a message telling you you can get it installed anytime by pressing Settings> About Phone>Software Update.

PS - This update was not forced on my phone. I had to press "Software Update" to find out about it. I don't know what would've happened if I hadn't checked myself? After a week or 2?

Yes, that is exactly what I mean. It sounds like people are waking up and finding that their phones have updated themselves. Mine has never done that. :)

I'll repost this in case anyone know:
Any idea which of these two I should choose? Package Installer OR Google Verify and Install? The prompt came up when I was updating an app from the Amazon app store. I tried to attach a screenshot to this post, but I am unable to do so from the stock browser.

Also, has anyone figured out how to get rid of the hand icon for Talkback that shows up every time I restart my phone? The only way I have been able to remove it is to click it in my notification panel, turn On Talkback, then turn it back off. Otherwise it doesn't go away. The funny thing is it says it's on, but when I go to the Accessibility page it's Off.

That's what they were saying about 3g. So they eliminated the unlimited data plan. Nowadays from reading the forums, it seems more people are using Wi-Fi. So how can the networks be strained? This update was terrible, to say the least, as you can see from all the posts. At first I thought my phone was the problem. Hopefully Verizon will fix this and soon.
