WiFi issues disconnects etc (fixed for me)

I'm currently having the exact same problem. Also, whenever I connect to a new WiFi network, I have to do the same again. It's frustrating, especially considering I'm out and about and connecting to different hotspots regularly. I have now had 3 S3's, none of the previous two had this problem. (First was chipped when I opened the box, second kept vibrating constantly then crashing and either rebooting or turning itself off.)
I keep getting disconnects on my S3 as well. The asterk, pound 0011 pound then menu doesn't do anything. Samsung doesn't know what the issue is.

just change the encryption of the wireless security`s router to automatic (tkip + aes) in wpa2-psk version and it will connect with no error.

i have come accross this suggestion before but ignored it. While i was trying all the solution provided on this forum, i tried the above and i saw my wifi up just like before. Wonderful with all my experience on i.t, i need to do research on this.

funny enough. i also noticed that i have ip conflict with other device using the same wifi. i changed the ip address on the device but discovered that my phone wifi only work for few hours and off itself and find it difficult to switch on.

can some with similar issue and solution please help?

This may or may not help, but it's always a good thing to check.

Get Wifi Analyzer, free, swipe to the page showing the signal graphs, and see if you are on the same channel as others nearby.

Ideally, you want to be on your own channel with a unique network name. If you and your neighbors are all using the same routers and defaults, you could be getting tangled up. That's all easily fixed in your router settings and often clears up a lot of trouble, as well as improving wifi throughout your house.

Oh Man! I have a 2 week old S3 with JB 4.1.2 on it and have been scratching my head and wondering if I should take it back!:thinking:

I had a Wifi Manager app on it and thought that was it, changed it to a Wifi on/off toggle and had Battery Defender on it. It happened at coffee shops and I thought - well, maybe their Wifi is having a problem, though I had my doubts. When it was happening at my house I knew something was wrong.

I took these apps off of it last night to see what would happen, then I found this thread. So this morning I went searching and found an interesting list of about 50 "secret codes" for the S3 supposedly with JB but none of them worked for me.

I was going to include the link, which was posted 3/7/13, but I didn't want to send 20 or more people on a wild goose chase. It may be for an Indian phone as I saw other articles by the author referencing India.

Yep, sometimes the channel of the hotspot can be the same or close to what the main router or access point is in the house... One overpowers the other by literally knocking the radio waves out if organization similar to two people screaming together.
Using wifi analyzer you can see who's using what channels and make corrections if needed to stay apart from each other.

Buried in the comments of an androidcentral.com article showing a code to unlock "Service Mode," which allows for the testing of many features on the S3, I found the trick to open the gates of Valhalla! This works on my 4.1.2

The secret is to first type *#22745927 to get to an 'enable/disable hidden menu' screen. Check enable and you're good to go.

Also, the code *#0011# works to access "Service Menu" and change the Wifi Power Save to off.

this is to inform all that i have finally got the solution to wifi issues on samsung galaxy i believe i should share this with everyone. this is working for me now for the past 48hours. my wifi now come on and off at my mercy. below is the process and i guess this will work for you.

Activate use wireless networks.that authomatically switched on your wifi or put the wifi on your self. if this does not work, switch the phone off and on. thank you.

I have uninstalled Battery Defender and the Wifi On/Off widget and have not had any more problems connecting. I also don't seem to be having any real battery issues by leaving Wifi/4G on all of the time.

It does go off by itself in a sleep state, by the way. I haven't explored this subject yet but I came across a description of the S3 with Jelly Bean going to sleep, or something. I've noticed complaints that Jelly Bean took away "Sleep Mode," but it just goes into Sleep Mode on it's own. Wish I could find that webpage.

After reading posts upon posts about Wifi always looking for Access Points to connect to where ever you go or driving down the street, and draining the battery, I thought I needed apps to control this. Perhaps with Jelly Bean it is controlled on its own.

This fix might help some of you out there. I have been pulling my hair out with intermittent connections to Home Wi-Fi Network using smartphones. Was also having drop-outs on wired connections as well. We have 3 Samsung phones here SI-SII-SIII plus 7 other devices (PCs, Sat Boxes & Live Streaming Devices). It dawned on me that a possible cause of the problem was IP Address conflicts. So I went into my ROUTER which is a BT Voyage 2110 - Advanced Settings - Local Network - DHCP Server - Reserved IP Address List. I then entered the MAC Address and assigned an IP address for each device on the HOME Network. The MAC Addresses I got from a little Utility called MyLanViewer (you don't hv to use this one as there are similar utilities out there which will show you who or what is on the network). BTW most ROUTERS (if not all) will have the facility to do this.

End result for me here is that the problem has been solved. So hope this helps someone out there.

Glad you solved your problem Unsionn!

I forgot to include that I set a static IP address on my S3 instead of using assigned DHCP on the router. Why not? I have not had a dropout since.

But, I was having dropouts everywhere. I guess I could reinstate the Wifi On/Off widget to see if that was it, though I don't feel much like messing with a good thing at the moment.

I'm having the same issue. I did install the wifi analyzer, didn't help. My phone shows 4g on the screen, I go into wifi & it shows i'm using wifi. Samsung is a joke for help. All they do is give me the steps to turn on wifi. I know how to do that. Anyone know of other steps other than the #& numbers, tried that too. I do have wifi turne to on during sleep, this is what Samsung told Verizon to do a few months ago. That worked but now it's come back intermittetely, I removed the battery & that keeps wifi on for about a day then it goes back.

I have a feeling it is best to leave assigning IP addresses to the individual WiFi Network you are on. For example if you have your phone setup on a STATIC of say 192.168.1.200 the NETWORK might have already assigned that to another device. Might I be "technology ignorant" when I say this? All I can say is that after a week of setting up the modem with Reserved IP addresses for each device, when we are all in the HOUSE everyone has a solid connection with no dropouts. This is the first time this has happened in 2 years :)

Oh, by all means, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Your post merely reminded me that I had not been complete in my description of how I solved my problems, and I wanted to be complete for anyone else looking for a solution, and statically configuring an IP address on my phone was one suggestion. And, there really is no reason not to do that on my own network, since I'm in charge of how the IP addresses are assigned. Nothing else needs to be done on the local network configuration, as long as it's within the range and no other device is assigned that IP.

Also, if people are filtering MAC addresses for wireless clients on their router, they need to remember to enter the MAC of their phone on that list.
