Root [OUDHS] Guide to Rooting your Premia 4G

I only installed SDK on my desktop to root an old Moto BackFlip with RageInTheCage method LOL... And only for that. Any other exploit kit I've ran for my LG phones worked on my laptop without SDK on it. I dunno, gotta come in handy for something, so I've just held onto it :)

I guess if the script works [for example] w/o it, U don't need it. I'm still stuck wondering why it "seems" like the script did not "work" the 1st time, but after a 2nd time I got Root Access?

I don't know. Same thing happened to me (ran twice), but I think I was expecting ChainsDD Superuser with the pirate Android to show up, but it actually installed CWM Superuser instead. I didn't recognize the CWM SU icon at first :D

I thought it was always about the "Superuser" app and "SU" binary. ChainsDD??

I wud like to be able to get to the point where I could use CWM. It seems analogous to doing a "Clean Install" of Windows [or something like that]? Although, in the Android world it seems like ur just trying to minimize the "company" pre-installed apps - MetroPCS in my case.

I would too, but it doesn't look like any dev from AF wants anything to do with this phone. I already tried using a 2ndinit recovery like the LG Motion crowd is using, didn't work. Our phone's bootloader, I believe is locked so 2ndinit ROM and recovery would have been cool. I can't even access the bootloader to even check to see if it's locked or not, like checking it with the getvar command in ADB, but it just gives me zero values on everything I look into. Phone LOOKS like it's locked, so probably is. But, again, nobody wants anything to do with the Premia, so..... We're SOL it looks like LOL

An aside.. At MetroPCS, originally [at night] that had a deal [stated online] that if you were to go into the store, you would get the phone for $50 - Manufacturer's rebate and MetroPCS's rebate - ONLY in-store.

I went into the store the next day. The deal had changed overnight. Instead, I had to pay about $75 outright, but no rebates.

I was aware of the fact it (Premia) may be locked and hated here in AF and I was right LOL :D But, I'm happy with ICS, much better than the piece of kcufing shiite LG Connect I had that was stuck with Gingerbread for life... ICS is a new world for me, and I can live with it. I deleted all of the MetroApps and useless Huawei garbage so I'm cool for now. If we get blessed with spontaneous dev interest, awesome. If we get a HW Jellybean update, great. If not, no biggie. This phone is only interim for me :D

I wouldn't hold out for anything cool for the Premia. Devs HATE Huawei, and most potential MPCS phone buyers hate Huawei after the last 4G mess of a phone they released hahaha...

Do you have a guide to removing [SAFELY] as many MPCS apps as possible?

No, I just deleted the Metro .apk files I knew were safe to remove on my last phone, and took a guess on the rest of useless random Huawei junk and thankfully I didn't brick my phone doing so. I don't recall exactly what I deleted, but it was a lot. I wouldn't recommend doing it until somebody posts an official list of safe apps to remove, ya know? Unless you post a list from your phone using the HW file explorer, then I can tell you what I removed.

Yeh, no offense, but that is not a "ringing" endorsement! LOL [Especially to a guy who just "bricked" his phone after two weeks!]

Yeah LOL, I'd leave it be. Honestly, I had less problems with my Premia before I rooted the thing for the first time. Have youTube and streaming audio hiccups occasionally. But everything else works fine

Yeah, notice this thread has the OUDHS in it? No love for this unloved device :D In the eyes of the devs here, Premia falls into the same lowest realm of poop that the CP Quattro sits in hahaha

what more do do you expect? we leaves roms/kernels to people who have teh device. recovery i believe i sent a test version to you with teh warning of not knowing if it would break your phone >.>

I don't think he was bashing you or your work shabby, I think he was bashing his own shortcomings. If you feel like trying it again, I'd be more than happy to try.

I've flashed my old admire plus a few allwinner tablets, I have Ubuntu12.04 setup, with Android Linux sdk installed. Also I follow directions well, and I know the risks of bricking the device

I don't expect anything more Shabby, you've helped as much as you can already, and I thank you for what you have done. I'm totally sorry that what I said came out like that :(. ABSOLUTELY no offense was intended to teh hit squad, especially you, since you've been so helpful. It was supposed to be something along the lines of, that if OUDHS has no love for the Premia then.... well, ya know LOL...

Anyway, the furthest I got with recovery was trying 2ndinit recovery from the Motion, but no-go. It installs, but reboot into recovery only reboots the phone. You never sent me the test recovery, I believe that was because I said no cuz I just got the phone LOL. You can send it to me if you want...

hey shabby ,i appreciate all you have done.seems like outta all of the many many phones ive had, even ones i havent listed, your name comes up one way or another on almost every single one.so thank you. now do u happen to have any advice on how i can go about finding a way to unbrick my phone.i wasnt really doing anything at all, just rooted it when i got it,but didnt put anything else on there that would have caused this, and about 5 days later i was getting shitty 4g so i pushed power and picked restart, and bam...wont go past boot screen.used built in recovery to factory reset like 20 times and still nothing.and i dont know how to go about making(because there isntg anything to find) the update to use through usb update mode

I was able to use this method on my Mac OS X 10.8 machine, but with only one little issue, the adb.osx binary in the zip file did not work. I replaced it with the adb file installed in my Android SDK folder and it worked perfectly. I successfully rooted my Huawei M931 after doing that.

So, two of us had to run the script twice. But, "star2doc", it worked for you on the first try?

EDIT: Anyone understand why [I assume] some folks were able to run the script and be rooted the first time?

dan says he uploaded a new version so i need someone to test just running the script so see if it works

Shabby, i was messing with set cpu when rooted and i not knowingly clicked set on boot so now im in a boot loop. I wish i would installed the recovery but i didnt even check if there was one. i cant acces adb either alls it says when im in the command prompt is error device not found. The found new hardware brings up MPT and thats all. Is there any other solution????

Try doing a factory reset with HW recovery. From power off, press and hold Power, Vol- and Vol+ until the stock recovery comes up.

i did many of times. I even tried going to usb update mode trying to get into fastboot and odin trying to flash shabbys recovery and no luck.

Hmm... What did you do with setCPU? Underclock or change the governer?

Asking cuz I've changed the governor a few times to see if that helped audio issues I was having. I didn't set on boot but got a reboot after about 10 minutes or so.

Same here I thought possible that it was one of the Apps that I deleted from my experiment, but I restored my backup and the first thing I did was use tom toolbox to Dave the governor.

There is no question though setting a different country governor let's me use Poweramp flawlessly
