Help My Phones Dead?

Well the wife and I were out on the golf course yesterday and got caught in a massive down pour. We tried to hide out in the woods to take a bit of cover, but it really didn't help. Completely forgot about my phone in my golf bag. When I finally remembered the screen was fading in and out and the bottom of the phone where the battery terminals are was very hot. I have it in a bowl of rice right now, but I have a feeling it's too late. Funny thing the stamp for moisture is perfectly fine. But I am guessing there are some inside the phone as well? I am thinking I am going to be shopping for a new phone here in a couple days. Have any of you put your phone in rice? How long did you leave it in there? :(

Hello jamala00. 24 hours is the optimum time for dry, uncooked rice to draw most moisture from a device such as a cell phone. Some swear by "over night," though. ;)

I'm hoping you quickly removed the battery prior to immersion in the rice. Both the phone and the battery should be in there, but not with the battery in and the cover on, for best results.

Next step is to liberally apply rubbing alcohol with cotton balls or swabs just about everywhere you can get to on/in the phone. That will remove remaining moisture from small places and the alcohol evaporates quickly leaving no harm to the delicate innards.

Damn jamala. I hope that it works. If not I will recommend getting an offer incredible. Lol. I just got a new tablet, a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. Sweet tablet. If the phones weren't so huge I might switch manufacturers.

It worked, took the phone out of the rice last night and it seems to be working as if in was never wet... I did notice in the very bottom left corner it does look just a tad darker when on white screens, but that is right where the battery terminals are and where the phone was very hot when I first noticed it. But you have to actually look for it to even notice it... :D

I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1... Nice tablet, I just don't ever use it. I am lucky if I power it one 1x per month! Don't care for using a tablet. Did you see my post on Samsung releasing a Smaller S4?

Nice to hear it worked, but I'd suggest leaving it in for even another night and maybe the screen will come back to full strength.

I dropped mine in some water a week ago, and had it in rice for about two days, taking it out a couple times to test it. The screen did some funky things while powering up, so I'd just put it back in rice. After the third day of rice the phone booted up and ran fine, and the screen and bottom LEDs worked perfectly, still do.

My only issue is the battery won't charge (getting alternating green and amber LED blinking, and battery with exclamation point on the screen) so I think my charging port is bad from the water damage.

I hear ya, I might try that, but I think I have a slight different issue. That is right where the battery termials are and believe me when I say the phone was HOT right in that spot. I think I might of actually burned the LEDs a bit?? Not sure, other then that it works perfectly... Maybe I'll try to put it back in for a day, but when there was still water in it, you could actually see a different issue with the screen. You could almost see the what looked like little water puddles at the bottom..
