Root <ROM> Samsung Gravity Smart T589 <10/26/11>

ok i added a odex'd non-rooted version to post #2.
i removed most of the bloat, left what was needed.
gmail i removed, u can get latest from market, saves space.
updated to the most recent version of play store, saves space.

the primary reasons to root is to overclock and/or remove bloat and since there still isn't a kernel available to overclock this device, i removed the bloat and left the rom un-rooted. you can use superoneclick if you want it rooted. imo no need for root. i did set the minimum frequency to 320, up from 245, this should help with battery life in comparison to a stock non-rooted device.

i'm home for 2 weeks for surgery, so i was able to have some time to tinker some more...

any requests that are rom related, feel free to inquire.
i'm home for 2 more weeks.

Hey guys.
Sorry I'm of no help now.
I had to take a job that has me on the road 24/7/345 days a year.
All of my files are on my desktop PC in storage. Even my Smart is in storage.
Has no one ported cwm recovery or made a oc'able kernel yet?
I'm working on one, but it's slow going because the source code that Samsung released is incomplete/incorrect. I've made a kernel that boots, but the touchscreen driver in particular is FUBAR.

I have, however, developed a process for disassembling and reassembling the boot/recovery images, so we can get init.rc or build.prop tweaks to persist.

Here is a debloated odex non-rooted version
Download here: -----> update.zip

Removed:
Lots of bloat

Added:
Adw Launcher
Adw Notifications
Flash Player
Gingerbread Keyboard
Black Theme

Note: this version is NOT ROOTED! <you can root if you want>

I'm not sure about this, but what happen if my phone is already rooted? With this ROM the phone goes unRooted??

And also, what about keeping my data (contacts, apps, notes, etc.) that I have on my phone, is there a process to keep those or nothing to do :(?

THANK YOU once again :)

it will return your phone to an unrooted state, even if previously rooted.

it will wipe your data, so contacts and extra apps will need to be reinstalled.

if your rooted right now you could pull your /data/app/ folder to your sd card, flash the 2nd rom option, open my files, and manually install each app you have in that folder on your sd card. but for contacts, you'll need to log back into google and sync them again.

About advice, How can I work with the file that the UOT kitchen gave me, because I wanna get my theme, like the one in the image. The important feature is the % of the battery.

Is any chance to do it? Also like a curiosity, what is bloat means?

Thx in advance :) I think I'll be maybe the first one to prove it xD but in about 2 - 3 days.

After having run into the dreaded 'memory is almost full' problem last year, I rooted my Gravity Touch and installed Link2SD and for a while it worked well for me. But after some other problems cropped up this month I finally took the plunge and downloaded both of Ahrtard's ROMs. I first installed the odexed one, and found some things I really liked, but also some things from the stock ROM that I missed.
Things I liked:
The overall speed.
The theme - especially the battery indicator in the notification bar.

Oh yeah, I also rooted the odexed one as well, as some things I wanted needed root.

The biggest thing I missed in the de-bloated odexed ROM was the T-Mobile backup for my contacts. I have found this very useful over the past year, and I could find no way to get it back. I did manage to get my contacts back again from another source, but not having the ability to just sync from T-Mobile was frustrating.

I then got brave and tried to remap those three green buttons to arrow keys like they should have been in the first place. I looked online and found advice and programs that would do this manually. I copied the gt2_keypad.kl with File Expert and edited it with another program. But found that when I tried to copy it back it wouldn't copy. So I tried Button Remapper, which would make things easy on me, only to find that I didn't have the right kind of root to remap my buttons. ARGH! And to top things off I somehow managed to delete my gt2_keypad file, which messed up the physical keyboard recognizing the top row of keys. Another ARGH!

So I saved contacts and whatnot and last night ran the original de-bloated ROM. It runs well. I installed Button Remapper again and remapped those four green buttons. And to my surprise, I had back the T-Mobile Backup! Liking much of what ADWLauncher looks like and does, and thinking that it was the source of that better battery icon in the notification bar, I installed it.

Turns out that that notification bar battery icon (on its side with the % inside) is not part of ADWLauncher. And I cannot figure out which 'Black Theme' Ahrtard used in the odexed version, so I can find out if that battery icon is part of the black theme or not.

And to top things off I cannot find a way to set the lock screen wallpaper. I try to do it through the settings, but when I select "Gallery" (the only selection), it errors out.

Any help in these areas will be greatly appreciated.

Well, after 1-day testing the debloated odex non-rooted ROM is pretty neat, I really like it :D as a recommendation you must root the phone and use Link2SD (follow instructions from the 1st post) in order to install many applications, because as it is, only leave you with 120MB so is just for 20 apps maximum. I hadn't try it because I lost the USB cable but tomorrow I will.

Some apps I loved from 1st post ROM--and that I would definitely install after root:
- Link2SD (obviouslly)
- Terminal Emulator
- Quickpic (instead of gallery)

Edit:
Another thing I noticed is that the notification for "battery full of charge" is not appearing :S I don't know if is not charguing to full or if is just that the notification is gone.

I have got Samsung SGH-T589W from Canadian Wind mobile, Android 2.3.6. Due to known issue with insufficient internal memory I have installed this ROM. Unfortunately now I am experiencing these issues:

1. blinking display (espec. during animations or writing)
2. Wi-Fi does not work (after turning it on there is written "Error")
3. I can not turn on USB storage

I can't install back ROM v.2.3.6 because it writes "E:Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (No space left on device) Installation Aborted".

Does anybody know how whats wrong with it? Thank You...
