Help Constant Slow Mobile Data?

I dont know if youre aware but you will always lose your 3g icon during voice calls and your bars will always turn white. Unlike GSM , CDMA drops to 1X (2G) for voice this has always been the case with EVDO and AWS band devices.

I can't update the prl ( without a PC) but will updating the build.prop help me keep my 3g locked on? Mine will work when I first turn it on, or right after a call..... but don't use any data for more then 25 seconds and it times out and drops to 2g.

My wife and I both have an Optimus Elite on VM. They were fine until about a month ago. I suffered from the 3G outage but she did not, when my month restarted my 3G was restored. Yay! I thought. We are now both not receiving voice calls routinely, or the phone rings 10+ times before it even connects to our phones. Several times our phones will suddenly notify us of multiple voicemails when the phones had never rang at all. I even bought a new Elite and the same problem persisted. All of this while my data was constantly flopping back and forth between 3G and 2G. My phone also constantly says "time zone changed" which I believe it does when acquiring a new network connection. Literally like every 10 seconds. I just today reactivated my old optimus V and now it seems to be working fine and calls are coming through again. It looks like neither of our Elites are working and VM has been unable to help us at all.

If you get no other advice, and the Elites are not rooted, the only thing I can suggest is to perform a factory reset on one of the phones and see if this clears up the problem. I do not know why a new Elite would also have this issue.

Again, other forum members may have solutions more specific to your problem.

Thanks. No, never rooted any of the phones. I did do a factory restore without result. A new phone didn't fix the issue either but I see people in this thread who received multiple Elites from VM and the problem was never resolved. When I look at Sprint's coverage map we are dead center in 3G for miles around and our signal strength is great. We can literally SEE a Sprint tower from our house.

My Optimus V has been happily connected to 3G and receiving calls all day. I guess the Elite is just not going to happen which is a shame because it's a great device.

Did they inform you of any system upgrades in your area. Sprint just got done a massive overhaul in my area and for about 2 weeks we had voice and data issues. Since the upgrade there is still 1 tower that service is pretty crappy from but otherwise it's much better. I even broke out my old Elite and activated it for my wife cause she messed up her Rise and it works perfectly. Even the data is comparably to my Evo V. She's actually going to keep the Elite active and ditch the Rise.

Has anyone definitively gotten to the real verdict on why the Elite wont hold a 3G signal? Mine will when I come out of airplane mode, after a call, ( pretty much anything that resets the antenna), and 3G works fine until I stop using data..... then after about 35 seconds it drops 3G and goes to 2G. Is it a hardware issue, or something in the gingerbread software or kernel?

VM has assured me that there's no issues in my area. Other VM phones work. The Elite doesn't though. I still have issues even traveling an hour's drive away.

I'm guessing it's a software thing but it's hard to say. My 3G exhibits the exact same issue.

My Elite has a similar dropping in and out of 3G issue, which is usually fixed by resetting the antenna.

I have no idea whether it's a software or hardware issue, but the Elite (at least mine does) seems to lock up or lag a whole bunch when I interact with any of its antennas (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Radio, GPS) as in turning them on, off, or using multiple antennas at once. This is on the Harmonia ROM (my phone hates Sleipnir and restarts constantly on it). The problem was worse on stock.

It's frustrating enough for me to switch phones altogether.

Have you tried CM9? The camera isn't working on that rom but everything else is. You may get better data connections with that rom. Another option is to change the PRL on your phone. It requires a computer and you have to have your MSL. I did try the first release of cm9, and am pretty sure I still had the connection issues.

I'm running stock and all these issues are happening. Seems like the same thing for those who rooted the phone.

The Elite has connection issues it seems.
