playstore, phone settings both say different about android version ?

when i go to setting > about phone android version is 4.0.4 but when i open playstore settings version is 4.1.6
why is this ?
( i am rooted but it was like this before so cant be that + i have not got a modded playstore or anything like that.) if theres a guide anywhere about modded playstores and such like link would be appreciated though.

That is the Android version, 4.0.4, your phone is on... Ice Cream Sandwich.

but when i open playstore settings version is 4.1.6

That is the version number of the Play Store.

why is this ?

Because one is an Android Firmware version... and the other is the Play Store app version.

The latest Play Store version is 4.1.10 which is rolling out now or can be downloaded here:-

So I'm not the only one.

When I'm on my HP Touchpad(I ran both Evervolv and Schizoid ROM, both 4.2.2) but Play Store says that I'm on 1.5 Cupcake.

Oh, sorry. Misunderstood the thread title.

I thought that you are running 4.1.2 but Play Store says your android version is incompatible with the app.
Nevermind this post.
