Now that my Razr has a Jelly Bean forced down it's throat - and is literally choking to death, is there anything that can be done? Or do I simply go buy an iPhone?

After EIGHT Androids (all but the first, replacements when I proved to VZN that they don't work), I finally got this Razr which worked for several months until GOOG realized it, and destroyed it with a new opsys.

I mean, if you bought s Lexus, could the car dealer sneak into your garage and install a Yugo engine without recourse?

Original Razr (not HD or Maxx or...). Since it was a replacement, VZN never gave me anything more than eord-of-mouth "branding" (no box; no catalog, etc.).

And, NO - NO factory reset. I did that on my first 6 Droids with absolutely no success (and about 6 hours each time of re-installing and resetting of settings. Never again!

Phone freezes 4-8 x a day.
Had to reinstall 7 apps (so far) - and reset all settings (for some of the apps. One App still doesn't work.
No more control of long-press Search-key.
Lost a whole file of photos.
Pressing Home Key frequently initiates Message.
Screen often unresponsive to touch. (And scrollingrarely works, hencethe placement of this problem in the middle instead of at the end. In short, this Moto isnow a virtualbrick)
Phone suddenly dials random number (from contacts).
Re-boot is often audible (great @2am for bed-partner)

Pretty much any problem with the update can be solved with a FDR. I was resistant for a few months but then my phone became very sluggish and unresponsive at times. Resetting it worked like a charm.

If you have uninstalled and reset settings on some apps, what is the harm of doing an FDR now?

hey guys,
so i just wanted to chime in here.

@mdeva your issues might be phone related vs an android thing. i have an htc evo 4g lte and i never have any issues with mine. not sure if this is because it is rooted or not. but i love my phone.

now if you guys want to make this thread an apple vs android then i suggest that we close this thread down and you can use one of many of those kind of threads we have in the android lounge.

@mdeva if you like to continue to discuss your issues with your device then please feel free to discuss it here.

please come to me if you guys have any questions.

thanx

Well, glad I trusted my instincts! Instead of doing a factory reset on MY device, a friend with the same device and same problems asked me to try a reset on his. Yea! Best of both worlds. I got to experiment without losing my data. Of course the factory reset cured absolutely no ills

So here's my latest theory - directly out of the 1950s auto industry - Planned Obsolescence. Google/Android assure themselves of two year phone turnover by assuring that phones "brickify" after two years by forcibly releasing a new operating system on all devices which has been tested and proven incompatible with any current-generation-2 device.

Brilliant.

Unethical, but brilliant.
