The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Status

Hey: look what happened while I stepped out... we got our own forum! :D

But the SPECS on this thing??? Seriously? I am really hoping that those are for a second-tier phone in the X line and not the flagship killer phone that Motorola desperately needs to stay alive. This needs to be the stuff of legend... much like the OG Droid was, much like the Galaxy Nexus was. And the RAZR Max HD, which is admittedly a very capable phone.

I'm serious, Moto, and I know someone there is reading this: make it epic or most of us are skipping it. I already have dual core. Nexus 5 and Note III are around the bend, and Moto has to make this phone awesome.

/rant :)

While dual-core, it's a significantly more efficient processor and you'll notice close to double the battery life on it over the Gnex is all likelihood. It does puzzle me why they choose the dual-core S4 pro over the quad-core S4 pro. Must be a cost cutting measure. Even still if this phone comes with these specs, with a razr maxx battery and comes in at 100 dollars subsidized, I think it will still be a winner.

Subsidized?

There are a bunch of us Verizon folks on unlimited data who can never subsidize a phone again. EVER, without going onto a limited data plan. I know I'm saving up for a full retail phone. So the subsidized price is irrelevant to us. Well, me at least.

If it's only $100 subsidized though, that pretty much puts it in the realm of the once-fabled Stratosphere (remember the high hopes we had for that one?), which is a far cry from "flagship".

No doubt, if it's 100 subsidized at launch, then typical trend would put this between 450-550 retail. Which is still better considering the S4 is 650 and the One is 600 at retail. I think it's going to be more in line with what the Razr M was back in September last year. But Motorola recently hasn't been known as a hardware giant. Both the Razr M and Razr HD where considered average when they came out. The DNA came out only a couple weeks after the HD and it blows it away in almost every category. The real bummer is that the allure of stock android is gone now that we have the S4 and One Google editions due out next week, though that doesn't matter for the Verizon customers.

I'm just going to leave this in here for those who are complaining about the specs:

You have to realize what Motorola is trying to do here. It's going for a strategy that no one else is trying, which is all day battery life, durability, low cost, and maybe customizability. But it wants to achieve all this while keeping the phone small, so that it "fits perfectly in your hand," without "cheating" like Samsung does in making the phones huge to cram in more battery.

So yeah, those of you who are expecting a god phone are going to be disappointed. But that's why Google is releasing the S4 and One Nexus editions, to assure Samsung and HTC that Google isn't giving Motorola special treatment.

Basically Motorola's mindset is that smartphones have become so advanced that we don't need octa cores or stuff like that. For common folk, these specs are simply good enough (especially at the low price at which they'll be selling).

And they're going to play up the "Made in the USA" bit a ton, and market the Moto brand as something feel-good premium (like, how it will feel, not the specs) that Americans will be proud to own, if you will (does that make sense?)

Not Not if the full retail price is over the $300ish price point.

I have the Galaxy S2 and I love it except for its battery life. It runs smoothly and works for almost everything a normal user would use his/her phone for. If it could last be a whole day or maybe even more, I don't see the need to get a new phone. Dev support is still strong as well. And this is coming from the guu who wanted the most powerful phone that's out. And I still do. But if I didn't have a smartphone, I'd buy this one with an extended battery for like $200 in total and be pleased with it.

I'm not saying the phone is for everyone. Others prefer the octa cores with a 5inch screen and 2GB of RAM. That's why there's phones like thw HTC One, Galaxy S4, LG Optimus G, Galaxy Note 3.

(Sorry if this doesnt make sense... I'm running on 2 hours of sleep and words feel like they're jumbling themselves together in mybrain  )

Ok, so if this is true....is there any one who has the RAZR hd/maxx who thinks its worth paying full retail for? I'm not seeing it

It seems people are willing to pay around $500 for the Razr MAXX HD. This is based on my shopping around for my current RAZR M. I think the MAXX HD has a good amount of demand because of its big battery capacity.

With all of these different rumors with different specs, perhaps they are specs for different versions of Moto X phones, not just for one phone.

I would guess that the mid-level phone will have the Dual-core S4 pro, while the high end phone will have the Snapdragon 800.

I'd really wish they'd make another official announcement about the phones soon. I'm excited.

I already like how the back looks, simple and symmetrical. Although I wish the speaker was on the front.

of curiosity, where and how you are accessing these photos?
Are you familiar with some of these folks?

Picassaweb lets you search by phone model so Xt1060(VZ flavor) and XT1058 (ATT flavor) will bring up any pictures taken with those models. Thanks to google+ most people are using their real names. Cross reference name with the company(att or VZ) and get a linkdin, boom done.

I do I.T. this stuff just becomes second nature in a bad way. Just remember never post anything you don't want linked back to you ;-)

That being said, please leave the people posting pictures of their kids alone, I don't want anyone fired because they didn't strip metadata from a picture of their kids school play
