Root T Mobile, AT&T, & MetroPCS LTE fix.

It's better financially for me too. Both my GF and I are on the 30 dollar plan and are saving 110 dollars a month! And believe it or not, I get faster download speeds on T-Mobile's HSPA+21 than on Verizon's LTE here. Verizon is soooooo congested here. I couldn't pull better than 5mbps on Verizon LTE with my Gnex, yet average 7-10 on T-Mobile HSPA+21 with the Nexus 4. I'd like +42, for more speed, or LTE for better upload speeds, but overall I still say I made the right move. It's hard to argue with an extra 110 dollars a month, lol :D
Yeah man. My Wife and I save 90 bucks a month on T-Mobile. Can't wait for you to get LTE though. Then I will feel complete.

Hey, haven't been on in a while. Any changes I should make to the guide?
Hey there.

In your absence, one of our staffers, my pal "jhawkkw," added on AT&T LTE instructions via the keen eyes of user "new optimus." I thought that was pretty nifty. You could certainly add him to the list of contributors to the guide. You could also make post 1 about T-Mobile and turn post 2 into the AT&T mod? Just ideas I've had since more info was added. Just humble suggestions here. Other than that, I think the guide still stands up just fine.

Now, I have seen four additional lines to the build.prop (T-Mobile mod) which some suggest help the LTE radio do its job better, but I tested it and it was either the same or worse in terms of reception. My humble vote is to stick with what we know to be working for now.

Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts.

Looks like pay per day is good for 90 days unless you add $100 refill card to the account then its 1 year.

Pay As You Go: Service available for 90 days (one year for Gold Rewards) after activation/refill/conversion; thereafter, your account will be suspended. Gold Rewards requires activation of $100 in refills while on Pay As You Go plan

And just to clear up any confusion say you activate and use the initial $3 then 45 days later add another $3 it becomes 90 days from that day. So you could keep that account/phone number for a long time just by adding a couple dollars every 3 months.

To save clogging up the tmob forum I'll ask this here.

The SIM I bought, I used the 3 dollar credit I got and used it for the daily plan. Now, can I leave this sim card inactive and pick it up later on and add to it again? If so what's my timeframe I've got to do that by?

I'd like to casually peek in and check on lte on my area.

I think I saw 90 days on the T-Mobile SIM expiration.

That will improve, Fl markets just barely opened up in every city they have started like that, during the testing speeds are low but when they get it set up it will be fairly fast.

Just thinking out loud... I'm getting the same speeds as I was on MetroPOS. And apparently Metro uses AWS LTE also, wondering if they're using their towers already... Hopefully they juice them up a little, 8 mbps is not really LTE

It's better than what I got on Verizon LTE

But yeah, on an uncongested network, it will probably increase. They're probably still in the preliminary phase of getting it going in your area. Once they finish, you should see it shoot up, then degrade as it begins to congest.

No from my understanding they are not letting tmo subscribers on metro lte, besides that the tmo lte is a more advanced tech but the slow speeds are because they have artificial load testing and low power to them drive around till you find a tower and have full bars and test I bet you find faster speeds.

That is what I did.

During the testing you may not want to have LTE enabled full time because its not going to give you the best performance. I suspect in a week maybe 2 things will be quite different.

I'm in downtown Salt Lake City, UT and I tried to look for LTE signal when I rooted my phone about three months ago. But I didn't find anything. Called my local T-Mobile store and they said LTE is expected to roll out in the end of June.

Yesterday, I remembered this and tried again by dailing *#*#4636#*#* and chose "LTE only". Voila! I saw the 4G symbol. The"LTE/CDMA/GSM" mode also works.

There's a noticeable speed increase. Ping from 65ms to 55ms. Down from 8Mbps to 10Mbps. Up from 3 Mbps to 5Mbps.

The signal strength shows one less bar than using HSPA+. Havn't tested battery consumption yet.

Doesn't seem stable though, because I tried again this morning and found no 4G symbol and it appeared again this afternoon.

If you're using T-mobile, you can call the local T-mobile store and ask whether they get a plan for LTE.
