Here I will maintain a list of system apps that should be safe to remove/delete/uninstall. Be careful at your own risk. It is recommended that you make backups of your files before you remove them.

If you wish to Experiment with removing apps on your device, you must know the risks.
1. If you remove a system app, any of the following may happen

  • glitchy or otherwise weird device behavior
  • your device may reboot at random times
  • your device may enter a bootloop
2. At this time, there is only one verified method of backing up the Premia 4G. If you do not have a backup and your device goes into a bootloop, your only option is to get a new device.

Thanks for helping with this list goes to:

Hey Sepero: Some junk you can add to the 'safe to delete' list LOL.

From system/app folder:

Email.apk
GenieWidget.apk
HwOUC.apk
Magazines.apk
Music2.apk
Myemail.apk
Swype.apk
YouTube.apk

Deleted from cust/metropcs/US/app folder:

AllBackup.apk <--- Can't remember deleting this, but it's not on my phone.
Facebook.apk
HwBeyondTheSkyTheme_Small.apk
HwDawnTheme_Small.apk
HwDLNA.apk
HwIME.apk
HwWallpaper.apk
HwWiFiHotspot.apk
ICS_MoxierEasEngine.apk <--- Same here. WTH is this, anyway? :D
MetroAppStore.apk
MetroPCS-EasyWiFi.apk
MyMetro.apk
PinyinPack.apk
SpanishPack.apk
TotemWeather.apk
Twitter.apk

I deleted these files almost a few weeks ago, only two I can't remember (above), can't say for certain that they are 'safe', but most likely are since I can't find on my phone anywhere.

Microsoft email exchange server stuff like MS outlook. if you plan on syncing your microsoft exchange account or if you work for a company that uses its own exchange server for email, calenders, contacts etc..you'd use this.
you can delete it.

I have a few now that I have tested. They all do not soft brick the phone if removed, but a few of them wouldn't make much sense to remove lol

[list taken down upon request. Sorry guys maybe this conversation is better suited for a irc channel

PM will do for those that feel uncomfortable using messengers (and believe me I know why). Send a PM I'm going to make one and mark which ones I THINK are bloatware, open for criticism.

There's only one problem...I have a job. xD

I was miserly trying to see what I can delete without bricking

i wouldnt recommend posting that list and content, as other people who are just scanning thru the thread can easily assume that deleting all those system apps is ok..which it isnt.
i think thi thread should just only contain a list of boatware to delete rather than other system apps..could cause lots of problems

Ii do agree. I wasn't really thinking that maybe a private forum or chat would be a better option.

I too agree about the communicating among yourselves to figure out what is bloatware/crapware/worthless stuff, but then once agreed upon it would be considerate if one of those who were part of the conversation came back here and posted that list for those of us who weren't part of your conversation and don't do IRC for whatever reason. Or at least let us know so we can PM you for it.

Thanks!!

And the music stuttering is NOT an app problem, its related to the CPU govenor, as outlined here ->
When playing a song in Spotify, the music will stutter and garble when the screen locks. Maybe a CPU stepping issue?

Update: FIXED

Once rooted, I used SetCPU to change the governor to msm-dcvs and the scheduler to cfq.

The stuttering when the screen is off has completely disappeared. So it was probably a stepping issue.
I set my min and max to the device min and max. Idk what the max cap is where you would experience stuttering again.

I will be adding LoopyD's marked apps to the list because they are technically "safe to remove". Some people like myself don't use google calendar or calculator. I use a different calculator from the play store. So knowing that I can safely remove these apps is a good thing.

Though, due to the suggestion of boneface, it may be best to divide apps into 2 sections: bloatware and nonbloatware
