Root What will 2.1 mean for root users?

Hey everyone. First off let me say that I am very new to this whole "rooting" thing. I just got my phone rooted last night, and am loving it so far. My favorite thing so far is wireless tethering.

I wanted to get everybodys thoughts on something. With the 2.1 release coming soon what does that mean for us? I love my rooted phone, but I want to be able to have the added features of 2.1 (google nav, updated market, etc...) so to get 2.1, I will have to flach back to stock to get 2.1, is this correct? I'm guessing that once 2.1 comes out, it will only be a short time before we can root again? Will most of you flash back to be able to get 2.1?

Any info that people could give me on this issue would be helpful.

when 2.1 finally does come out officially it will remove root access from your phone. that just means you will need to wit until someone has figured out how to gain root access on the phone.

i plan on upgrading to the official 2.1 when its released and holding off on getting root as long as i can. having root access on the phone is a big security risk.

if you remember a couple of months ago there was a worm that was spreading on iPhones because they had "jailbroken" their phones. jailbreaking and rooting are pretty much the same thing. different ways to go about the same end result.

having root access just means that programs can have superuser access which means they can change pretty much whatever they want.

while root is required for some applications its not required for most. if you want wifi tether for instance it is needed but to use bluetooth/usb tethering via pdanet it is not.

Truth be told.. unless you are looking for wifi tethering.. root is pretty much worthless... Hell if pdanet gave us https for free i would be using bluetooth instead of wifi...

Numus is correct,

However if you want to change the boot logo (initial Samsung screen) or the boot animation (flashing Samsung screen) you'd need root.
Those are just aesthetic changes--which you kind of have to be able to follow good detailed instuctions to do--which only changes the 'look' not the functionality...

So for right now I don't have root--but it looks like the guys at SDX are getting things fine tuned with their ROMs i.e better than stock-leaked version...

It is possible to get it for free with a little work

1. Unistall
2. On your PC got to start menu > Run> regedit(this opens your registry editor.
3. In Registry Editor select HKey_CURRENT_USER
4. Select Software folder
5. Find PDA NET Android
6. Delete and then close the editor
7. Reinstall PDANET to your pc

Ive been doing it like this forever. It takes two minutes and your done. But Seriously. Wireless tethering is way faster than USB tether.

As far as security risk are concerned, Im pretty sure rooted users arent going to have too many issues with the TALIBAN going rogue via android phones. Just make sure you are not visiting sites that require personal info like bank websites, and be sure to clear your cache in your web browsers when done browsing.

How does this give you https for free? I would think it would just reinstall pdanet as the free edition (without https)...

I rooted my moment months ago and was wondering am I going to have to "un-root" my phone in order to get the 2.1 upgrade when it is released or will I still be able to receive it? I am very confused and would love some help with this.
