Slow Response From Google Voice Search

I posted this on the Galaxy Nexus forum but haven't gotten any advice (and maybe there isn't any). Google Voice Search used to be extremely fast. Ask a question and within a couple seconds you'd have the answer. Now simple queries take 10, 15 or even up to 30 seconds to get an answer. I've wiped clean my phone twice and flashed two different roms. Yet it's still slow. Any ideas on why it's suddenly slow? Btw, it's slow with great 4g, wifi, or when I ask a question that searches the phone.

I believe it's the recent update that Google pushed earlier this month. Ever since then a lot of people have been experiencing issues with the speed of Now, as well as other bugs. My Google Now says that I have location settings turned off, even though all of my GPS boxes are checked.

No real fix at the moment, just hang tight until a new update is released that will [hopefully] resolve all of these issues.

I really hope you're right. I have a Droid RAZR HD Maxx and the voice search is extremely slow. It sometimes doesn't even recognize that I am saying something until about 10 seconds later. The voice typing, however, is really fast. So you are probably right that it is just the application.

I have a Droid Razr Maxx and was getting slow responses (usually 10 seconds or more) to Google Now/Voice Search queries on the initial attempt. On the second and following queries, my responses would come quickly. Then, if I didn't use the phone for awhile and came back and tried another search, the initial search would be slow once again. Yesterday, I went into manage apps and hit the uninstall updates button for Google Search. Now, I'm getting immediate replies on all queries. You might try that and see if it works for you. Unfortunately though, by uninstalling the updates, you're reverting back to the earlier factory version of the app which doesn't provide as detailed information by voice or on the cards as the updated version does. Hopefully, a future update is forthcoming that will correct that.

There's a new update to Google Search that is rolling out in phases now. Although it's not specified in the "what's new" details of the app update description, it appears to have eliminated the lag in responses when performing voice searches under Google Search / Google Now. It also has cards now that provide information on TV shows you're currently watching if you have a wifi enabled television on the same network as your phone that's kind of cool.

You're absolutely right! I just received the update and it's back to the way it should be. It's actually fun to use again.

Same here. Just got the update and things are much faster. It also has a cheat sheet at the bottom with suggestions of what you can say.
