Verizon VRBMF1 update

As you may know, Verizon recently released VRBMF1 for the Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 to fix problems with 4G access created by the previous update.

Well I got mine last Friday, and I am now unable to delete any text message conversations in the stock texting app. I can delete individual messages within a thread (aka "conversation"), but not the conversation itself. Is anyone else seeing this?

This phone is completely stock and not rooted. I have tried stopping the app, and clearing all of its data. I have also tried clearing the device cache from the boot loader menu. Nothing helped.

I am staying with rmb1 (the firmware before the debacle) until I get a new phone.

Less bloat

Radio works fine. Why mess with it after a year? They did so to help trigger that lame caller ID app.

The firmware besides the radio is part of the overall problem.

I rolled back with Odin and rejected the update "fix" with extreme prejudice.

I'm not experiencing this issue. Like you, I applied the "fix", my S3 is not rooted, and I'm also using the stock texting app. However, I able to delete entire threads or individual conversations within a thread with no problems.

I have the update MF1 stock but rooted. I can delete either thread or message with long press options in stock message app or through the menu, i have delete option which brings up check boxes for threads or messages (image below).

I really hope the peeps here realise that updates arent all evil. Just be ahead of the game by following the internet and wait for others peoples reports.. the same as you would do when an important app gets an update, read the play store reviews first.. that typa thing :)

I also hope this has gotten some people into the root community though to become independent of their carrier's

I agree with what you're saying Funky. I used to grab the updates ASAP from VZW just to play around with some new features. Because they seem to take so long to release them, it gave me the false impression that they've been diligent in their testing and QA processes.

The MB3 update has shown otherwise and I'm going to be more careful now.

I tried wiping the phone. (backed up all data with MyBackup Pro, then wiped, then restored). The old empty threads did not come back, but I still have the problem. I can delete individual messages, but when I try to delete whole threads, the messages within the threads are deleted, but I am left with empty conversations. Verizon and Samsung tech support have no idea why this is happening.

Well sort of. Wiping the phone did not help. The issue is somehow related to using the Verizon text messaging app on my G-Nex 7. It lets you text from an Android tablet. I installed it on my GS3, and it was able to delete the threads that the stock app couldn't. Then I removed the app for fear that it would conflict with the built in app and cause unpredictable results. So the app seems to be the culprit.
