I tried to make a normal 4 word SMS message yesterday, and to my amazement I saw that it was converting to MMS, and I couldn't stop it, so I was ultimately charged 40p.

When I checked my on-line account I could see it showing, but it wasn't against the number I had used, I have since had a credit for this but have also taken the decision to deactivate MMS on my phone, hopefully this should stop this error from happening again.

Even though I now have MMS deactivated will I still receive MMS messages that someone may send to me? and if so, is this chargeable to the sender only? I am referring to UK.

That happened to me when I first got my phone and I used the stock messaging app. Once I'd installed Go SMS it never happened again, even when I've done a really long text. No idea why the stock app does that. Are you using the stock messaging app?

I don't know about your questions though, sorry.

I got them to deactivate MMS on my phone as I wont be using the stock app to send picture messages anyway. I would use either WhatsApp or send it by email.

I take it when you refer to stock app you mean the normal message text app that came with the phone.

Not sure if this will help but I had the same problem. In your contacts field you have the ability to put a mobile works and personal number, a landline number and email addresses. If, when you try to send an SMS message and you dont choose the mobile number the phone converts it to MMS and tries to send it via email which loses the message.

Thank you for that info.

Use the stock app. U can select up to 50 contacts to send. depends on network etc. after you select contact and click done, phone will give 'coverting to mms' notification and send button will be grayed if you have limitation to mms sending amount. either way, start clicking each contact u have selected and it will show you details of that contact. delete all contacts which show no numbers. email addresses or others just delete and the send button will be clickable again. It converts to mms if you have accidentally selected a contact with facebook or email address only information. Now you will be sending as text. Hope this helps. tc.
