The s3 is here!!!!!

It doesn't matter what YOU paid. If you're going to compare the highest price for the EVO vs the lowest price for the iPhone, then you are skewing the numbers to support your motives.

Take a snapshot at any point in time...like when I bought my EVO for example. It was $149 and the iPhone was over $500. THat's the 3 times as much difference...but looking at your purcahse date when the EVO was $299 and the iphone was over $600...that's 2 times the price...so I can't understand why you'd compare one extreme to another. My point is that the EVO should always sell for less than half what the iphone does...it cost less than half when new. Your particulr BUY IN price is irrelevant to this.

As you said, let's not make this an apple vs android thread...as you'd be severely outnumbered...and the facts don't stack up well for you either. I'll agree to leave this topic alone if you do too :D There are some things I was going to pick a part in something you've said above...but I'll refrain for now.

Feel free - there is nothing wrong with debate.

Again, I dont care what the virtual price was/is. I only care about what I actually paid. Your argument is like looking at a used car from 1990 and paying the seller a price based on its 1990 price of $20,000. Good luck with that.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all my Android phones. I just don't understand the knee-jerk reaction that anything iPhone is laughable and sub-par. I am of the mind that two competing types of device can both be good.

Apple does a fine job of integration and produces quality devices that last years. Android, though pretty awesome, still has work to do.

Just my 2c ;)

I see the disconnect here.

I was speaking against your statement that the EVO's residual value was total crap compared to the iPhone...and I pointed out that at any moment in time, the iPhone sold NEW for 2-3 times as much as the EVO...and as such, the iPhone should cost 2-3 times as much as the EVO when resold as used.

You can't compare the EVO's new price to a depreciated iPhone's new price and make that argument. That's not how it works (especially a year later). It is sorta like a straw man argument. If I had bothered to take debate or logic in school, I could identify the fallacy you're using.

However, in YOUR PARTICULAR CASE...yes, the EVO was $80 less than the iPhone...and is currently worth less than half what your iPhone cost you today. That's fine...but it's pointless. It doesn't tell anything really. You have to compare them at the same point in time to actually show that the resale value completely stinks on the EVO V.

In fact...how is it that a $600+ phone sells for $380 today? That's quite a bit of resale value loss wouldn't you say? If you don't account for the lower price over time...then you aren't being genuine.

I could perhaps try to reword all this another way if you still aren't getting what I'm saying.

Another way of looking at this would be to compare the Evo V with the Evo Design which is a lesser phone that Boost received at the same time, Boost currently sells it for $195 on sale, it retailed at the identical price when introduced. Just because Virgin undercut them on price does that really mean that a single core is actually worth more than the dual core we received instead?

I think we have to agree to disagree. It's all semantics.

On a sidenote: I'm loving the iPhone. I went to one of my daughters events today and took a bunch of pics and videos. I got home, fired up the Macbook and there was the full album of pics and videos waiting for me on the Macbook. I didnt have to manually send anything from my phone - the files just 'appear' on the Macbook via iCloud. That's pretty slick :)

Im also on my third day of battery use and Ive been using the phone for garage saleing (gps), daughters event, and other obsessive actions that go along with a new toy.

On a sad note; I will be prepping my EVO for selling today - boo hoo. I really liked the EVO but it was time for a change.

Good luck all. Enjoy your EVOs. I certainly did. ;)

No 4G (WiMax) = no sale sadly. I get good WiMax coverage in MN but no LTE yet...it is "being rolled out."

I would actually take a speed downgrade by switching from my EVO V

Check Sensorly to see if LTE is actually turned on in your area. I'm in Minnesota too, and even though most of the places I go aren't "official" LTE areas, I get it almost everywhere. You might be pleasantly surprised!

Why didn't you get the s3? Just wondering.

Choosing the iPhone over the s3 is like choosing a Toyota Prius over a Lamborgini. :p

You missed out on the raw power

Because I feel the S3 is basically a 'mini-tablet'. Its simply too big for a shirt or jeans pocket. Ive been an Android fanboy for years and have had everything from the Intercept to the EVO. Ive had lots of fun with Android but Ive always wanted to try an iPhone.

So far I am very impressed with the iPhone. I get three days out of a charge and iCloud and iTunes are seamless. Eveything 'just works'. Accessories are dirt cheap and mounts less than $5.

Im sure I will switch again in 12 months or so but for now Im enjoying my new toy. :)

Well I was thinking of a Galaxy Note 1 or Samsung galaxy s3 as my next device and they aren't that big (except the Note). Time for you to get bigger pockets.:p

At some point...having the phone in hand is more important than the money it costs to own it.
Absolutely agree. I was going to wait, but I'm glad I didn't. Even though I know I could get it cheaper. I've been enjoying the S3 since we got it, and it's great. No regrets.

Sometimes, you just want a device to work and work well. :)
I completely understand you. I love Android, but at some point I could see myself trying an iPhone too. I know I wouldn't stay with it, so I'd switch my service over, play with it for a while, and then go back to Android. Or maybe even Windows, I'd probably try that if we got a phone.

It's just nice to try new things. The iPhone does look nice, the apps look good, it runs smoothly, and I always thought the battery life was supposed to be great. According to my co-worker though, hers lags, and she said her daughters' S3 batteries last about as long as hers.

At the end of the day, Android offers more variety, bigger phones, and more customization. I love my widgets, I don't want to give those up. And all of the cool things I can do with my phone. And my removable battery, and my SD card, and my NFC. And I can use Dropbox, or other apps to automatically upload all pictures to the cloud. But I feel like I agree with you that iPhones seem like they "just work." They're more simple, and for some people, that's perfect.
