Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

Inside of RemovedApps-Prevail-120112.zip it says in the readme file that this is for version 3.75 ONLY.

The first Post says If you need Talk or Genie Widget use the apk's from here: gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

I'm using ct3.80, but want the email app from RemovedApps-Prevail-120112.zip, but gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip doesnt have that, also what if I wanted other apps that the first has but the other one doesnt, I mean can I use the email app from the first anyway, and if I wanted the genie widget, could I just take that out of the signed zip instead of installing the entire package, or can I still use it anyway from the removedapps zip since its in there too.

I really just want the email app in the removedapps zip but the other dont have it, so can I use it anyway for 3.80?

I just picked up a new Class 10 microSD card, 16GB. What's the best way to partition this to take the most advantage out of the kernel? I want to ensure the best performance while having a lot of app space available!

Use the sd parter in CT and make a 1500 mb or close to that ext4, and another ext4 at 550mb and a swap at 550mb and the rest fat. This will work for data mode and ssm and if want to run swap. I have 120+ apps and still have plenty of room left in ssm mode and have switched to data and plenty there too. With this setup if you want to switch back to one or the other you won't have to re partition. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm still a bit confused about SSM and how it actually works, and how it compares to just straight Data mode. Also, what would be the benefit of switching?

Thanks again!

Switching back and forth not done much at all but if running one for a while and decide to want to switch it, it is already to go. The ssm runs faster and puts some of the data on internal. I have 120+ apps with lots of data on the apps and have 75mb or so free. Check out the http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/429740-kernel-gb-koumakernel-2-5-a.html
thread. Not many people run the ssm, I think they see the storage #'s different and they get scared they don't have enough memory, I have never come close to running out. It is all preference.

Last questions... Transpose SSM Partitions? Should I do this? Also, do I need to set my swap manually on the other KoumaMod tab? If so, how do I even do this?

Edit: I'm guessing not on the Transpose, since it seems to only affect CWM wiping.

I don't run the transpose and yes the swap has to be set in the kernel swap settings part, you want it to say (/dev/block/mmcblk0p4) priority 100 and the swappiness 60. That seems to work great you can play and adjust to your liking.

It worked great for like 3 weeks, now my phone(prevail) restarts all the time. I got a new battery, restored ctmod and still same result. It happens out the blue, and sometimes when I tap the power button the boot menu shows up then stalls and turns off. (tap the power button not hold) I noticed some glitches on the mod like the equalizer button on the radio and the unstable customizeable rom widget. Otherwise it worked way better than stock, till now.
Thank you for making the mod, can you give me some feedback please?

Thanks

As far as those rebooting and freezing issues, I experienced something similar to that a while ago. I pinpointed the problem to being a few issues. I was using SSM with a class 4 card and I had a ton of apps running. Since, Ive changed to data, using a class 10 card, and I make sure too many apps are not running. Its important to remember that when you look to see which apps are all running, do not go to the "Running" panel. Go to the all apps panel and go one by one to see and close. Another thing is to make sure you clear out the cache for certain apps, especially the browser, if it gets too high. Finally, remember that this is over a 2yr old phone and even when it was new, it was considered an entry level android phone. Thanks to all the great devs that worked on this phone, is why this phone is as cool as it is. Its the ultimate over achiever.

Mine did this...

First it did that...then it would go into a frantic charging loop....then it wouldnt take the usb cord
To charge...after fussing with the usb tab I got it to charge icon, sound looping...maybe pocket lint?

It did this when battery was out and stuck a razor blade knife and jimmied the usb tab up and down to get it straight...it would periodically work after that....

Took my friends prevail after he upgraded to sg2
He said he had the same issue where it said it was charging but not really....also it wouldn't recognize the usb cord....

I thought, damm...

So, I came to the conclusion, prevails life span ended...though, ctmod helped it stay passed its death date....it just couldn't last any longer...

Usb port I think....is defective. I've had other phone's last longer on even worse conditions
Maybe the mod used more power and the port couldn't keep up...or the usb, official cord was bad?

I don't know but...that's just the problem...

Now I've upgraded to sg2 using tbsg4 mod I also have a trident, krakken case that covers all the port holes...no problems yet

Is there a way to disable the default lock screen? I have an alternative one that I want to use but the default one keeps popping up. If there's no way in the settings then can I freeze it but I don't know what it's called. Thanks in advance!

You know, in the notification panel, there are some Widgets, if you scroll them to the right, there's an option to turn lock screen off.
