Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

That's IT!! I'm getting one of those signs that says CLOSED!!! I love my friends..in fact I'm very social...but this is getting out of hand!!! someone usually 2 or 3 or more people just swing by every day every night any time..whenever they feel like it...every single night people just come over!!

today..I came home from the store..and people were here!!! just hanging out in my yard....and no one was home!!! like it's a park or a public place or something!

:D

Just use this it will help them change their minds and realise their lack of manners in no time! :)

And if that don't work ask this happy fairy for a wish!

I hear he is very understanding and gives only the best! :)

Lol you must be what they call a "social hub" Huh :) theyre very special people so you should feel honoured  x

thanks...and I do..:)

ha!...I didn't mean to go off like that..it's just I actually had (or so I thought) a quiet evening to myself..but since I'm on "Holiday" from normal everyday life for the Summer I should let other people enjoy a little Holiday fun as well.

But do they have to bring bottles of wine and etc.. etc......to store at my house for themselves? Guess it's better than eating and drinking me out of house and home..but I'm also getting sick of cleaning up the patio etc..every single morning!
oh ..and when you bring your own lounge chair? And I'm not even home?

hahaha! actually .. come to think of it....that IS pretty funny!

ok ...Life is good:):)

If you sew - everyone wants tailoring or mending for free.
The friends I will help out are the ones I would do stuff for free, but they are the ones that pay!

I suppose any hobbyist - woodworking, computer geek, painter, etc. gets this.

Yes.

Oh, you know electronics? I have this TV...

You know computers, right?

It doesn't help that Dngrswife volunteers my services for everything from car repair to household electrical...

There are people like that?!

That's a special kinda stoopid ..

Don't they know that the vast majority of humanity is at least bi-lingual and very often multi-lingual? My missus speaks three languages fluently and can get by in a couple more. I'm actually really ashamed that I'm so pathetically mono lingual.

Funkylogic: love the use of beer mugs in reference to Ramadan :D

Siempre: Yes, alas, there are many people like that here in the States. And elsewhere I suppose, but it's like the joke says: "What do you call a person who only speaks one language? American." When I was living in Saudi, we had to take a second language starting in the 6th grade (aka about 11 years of age), thank goodness. That's starting too late in my opinion, but at least they started us relatively early over there compared to many schools in the States. It's a shame the Saudi government wouldn't let them teach us Arabic; I would really love to know that language. One day, though! I can't afford private lessons at the moment, and all the Arabic classes at the university I go to are always full-up (YAY!!!! That says something good about us students there I hope!).

And wow, good for your lady for being fluent in 3!!! But, like you said, I know that's just the norm in many places besides here... le sigh. I am so homesick for Saudi and miss traveling terribly. I just miss being around other cultures constantly, but at least I'm at a university where there are more opportunities to meet folks from other countries since we have a lot of exchange students.

Funkylogic: I second SiempreTuna, love the Ramadan beer mugs! And I'm very impressed that you can last a whole week!

I got dinner once for helping out a friend with her computer .. but that's once. In 30 years.

Maybe I should take up sewing .. :D

"What do you call a person who only speaks one language? American."

The same line could apply to Brits. I blame all those supersmart foreigners who speak English so well: when I lived in the Netherlands years ago, I really struggled to practice my lamentably bad Dutch, coz every time I made the slightest mistake, whoever I was talking to would instantly switch to fluent English :D

I agree.

There are also cultural factors, though: like in the UK we rarely get foreign language programs on regular TV - there might be one show in a week. In places that are good with languages - like the Netherlands, Belgium and I'm guessing Scandanavia - there are foreign language TV shows on all the time. And unlike in France, they're not dubbed. Unlike in, say France or Italy or Spain where - not coincidentally - they're not a whole lot better than us Brits when it comes to languages.

It's a shame the Saudi government wouldn't let them teach us Arabic

Wow! Strange! I'd have thought that would be top of their list ..

When a person confides in anotther. On a serious heartfelt manner .And then that other person turns around and decides to joke about it in public .a****le . Not exceptable .

That is appalling! What a a-hole!

Supersmart. Pffff... :eek::p errr...?
On behalf of the entire nation: we apologise for being annoying :D

Heard on the Dutch news here the other week, that some school started teaching English to 6/7 year olds. Although I started at 12 learning English, German and French. The sense of urgency is clearer when you're surrounded by countries speaking other languages, and when those borders are near.
Besides... Dutchies are traders who like to make their money abroad. And everything is subtitled on tv.

When I grew up in the summertimes in Norway, I picked up a bit of Norwegian. On tv everything was dubbed.
Just recently they started subtitling american tv series.

Okay I work at McDonalds.. It grinds my gears when people come in and treat the workers like they are stupid, and treat them like crap. It makes me not want to work here. Most of the time its good, but why do some people have to ruin my day, because their life sucks.

I hate to say this, but it happens everywhere. Drives me nuts too... it helps (slightly) when the d-bag customer at least apologies the next time they come in.

Lol i dont kill things but i get why you hate them. In the dark they have a habit of suddenly dropping out of the air onto your face lol. An urban myth is that theyre highly venomous but i think the truth is that like any other arachnid, theyre venomous but their fangs are far too tiny to puncture your skin :) just catch it between your cupped hands and let it out the window. Itl give u a nice warm feeling inside :)

Actually, mythbusters did an episode on this and proved they could bite AND it wouldn't harm you
