Root [Virgin Mobile] Remove Horrible VM Boot sound

Radio Shack... 2nd Day of availability (6/13/13).... Also besides the Boot animation there was not a bit of virgin branding on my phone.... It seems to be only branded Samsung.
I got mine there too, 6/12. My boot animation is Samsung. Now that I think of it, I don't even see any VM apps. Does yours have any? It came in a VM box, and it has a sticker on the back with the serial number that says VM on it, but that's the only VM branding I've seen.

Nevermind. I hadn't activated the phone yet because I wanted to wait until I had some free time, to set the phone up the way I wanted it. So I rooted it and set it up tonight, and just activated it. After activating, it factory reset my phone without warning or asking (!!!), erasing all my time, plus installing the annoying VM boot animation and apps.

Edit: Nevermind, after the initial reboot, it no longer shows the VM boot anymore. I didn't change anything.

Not quite that simple. You need to be rooted.

To use Bootanimation.zip
Using the root explorer, navigate to system/bin
you will be working with 2 files.

*First find a file named – System/Bin>"samsungani" (no file extension) and delete or rename it (ex samsunganiBAK)
Secondly find a file named – System/Bin>"bootanimation" (also, no file extension) and rename this file to "samsungani" without the quotation.

Get the bootanimation.zip file that you want to use (or create your own)

Unzip it to verify a little information is correct
Open the desc.txt file > you should see something like this (numbers will vary)
700 1116 18
p 1 0 part0
p 5 0 part1

Whatever bootanimation you use, make SURE that the number directly after the "p" is NOT 0 otherwise you will enter a never-ending loop.

Put in System/Media

There is an easy way. There is a s2 forum that has flashable custom boot animations. I flashed the stargate.zip and now I am able to use boot animation apps and zips. But they didn't make the sound go away.

Covers it up? I thought the point was to not hear the sounds anymore.
The point is to not hear sounds on boot, ever. With your method there is a possibility the user forgets to turn down the system volume before rebooting.

also encountered another boot sound in /system/media/audio/ui/XAS
follow the same procedure as before to remove it.
