Ok so you already know about all 3 carriers doing early upgrade and it has it flaws but will sprint join too, because I hate the fact that I have to wait 2 years...

T-mobile JUMP! which is every 6 months
At&T is every year
Verizon as long as you pay 50% of your phone you can upgrade
Sprint- ????

TMobiles is the only one I've seen that's really worth going for.

If they do implement one, it'll be interesting what direction the new owners take it in. Consumer friendly or profit driven?

You should check out this article. To me T-Mobile has the best plan for sure.

AT&T's is a ripoff too, just like Verizon's because they don't reduce your service cost. So in both cases, you're paying for your device twice between the installment payments, and the subsidy payment built into the service costs.

AT&T's installment payments only last 20 months rather than 24 months that T-Mobile have, but can range anywhere from 15-50 dollars depending on the device. And indeed it can only be used once every 12 months and requires trade in of the device.

Yeah they'll eventually do something. But I think they need to concentrate on getting Network Vision fully deployed ASAP.

I've read too many "Sprint Sucks" posts in various chat forums over the last year or so. Get the new network up and running around the country, then when the time right drop a plan that competes with other three carriers.

I agree 100% and will add...Sprint already has an early upgrade program and has for over a year now. Actually 2. Target customers can "Upgrade Now" by paying a fee and trading in their currently active device at a corporate store. Visit your local corporate store for details. There is also a second option handled through customer care (*2) that a customer can use. Call *2 for eligibility and details on that one.

All they've done is re-painted insurance. I've been hounding sprint over the last few weeks to see if they have any options for early upgrades. I get a resounding NO. The leasing your phone deal, I don't see the issue there. Even with an insurance claim, you're either sending the defective back or replacing a stolen phone. Either way, you are without the original. I'd opt for 10-25 a month vs several hundred or free with a two year contract. T-Mobile is going to rise above the rest of these jokers in the future, mark my words.

I believe Sprint will offer a similar early upgrade deal, if you can call it a deal.

The ATT, T-Mobile, and Verizon early upgrade plans are pretty expensive, and you have to return your old phone instead of being able to keep it and resell to recoup some cost

Sprints had an early upgrade problem for years already, and its the best one out of the big 4.

You simply buy out of the remainder of your contract (1 full year was only about $100) and then you are good to go on an upgrade.

No other fees, no monthly payments, and you don't have to give them your old phone.

The JUMP programs are generally bad for consumers. You're usually better off selling your old phone on Craigslist and buying a new one at full retail

Personally, I think all of these early upgrade programs are terrible. As you stated, you would make more $ selling the device through a 3rd party instead of giving it back to the provider. The only added benefit I see of JUMP! over any other is that the $10/mo fee comes with insurance included.

For those members that are in Florida or Washington DC, Kristin Wallace, Sprint PR person stated (earlier today on twitter) that there are licensing delays in those areas, so the Sprint One Up program is not there yet.

She didn't go into if other areas are and only mentioned those two.
Once the licensing delay is dealt with, the program will be offered in those areas.

I spoke to Sprint reps, they said you can finance up to 3 phones on the one up program. You will still get your company discount on the data part of the plan. The only thing they are not saying on your first bill you will have to pay the upgrade fee of $36 per phone. Ex. 1. unlimited talk and text $50 - $15 for doing the one up program = $35 + 2. $30 for unlimited data - 22% company discount = 58.40 for 1 line of service plus taxes and fees + the finance of the phone over 24 months ($700/24) 29.17 total per month will be around $100 a month.

EX
1. $50 - $15 = $35
2. $30 - $6.6 = $23.40
3. $700/24 = $29.17
4. taxes & fees = $12.43 estimate
5. Total per month = $100.00

You must qualify

You still pay an activation fee on each line activated

The lines have to be on the new plans (which you should do anyway)

Each one up phone gets the $15 monthly discount off the data charge

Company discount still comes off each data charge prior to the $15 coming off

Yearly upgrades.

That pretty much sums it up.

It is a pretty sweet program. If you completely take the plan math out and just look at the monthly instalment minus $15 then multiply that by 12 you are just coming out getting a new phone (depending on model) for $4-10/ month and can get a new one the following year. You can get an ipad mini for as little as $24 per month including plan because you can get those too btw

This actually isn't holding true anymore and is only going to get worse. I have sold three phones in the past month and was able to only get $25-50 more than subsidized price (2 HTC ones and one Note 2)
With manufacturers turning out new devices as often as they are the third party market is flooding with devices driving that value down each day.

That discount is only valid as long as you are paying that EIP though. Not every customer is going to upgrade their phone every two years (or however long it takes the customer to pay the device back).
