Is the Moto X the heir apparent for us GNex users? Are you thinking about it?

I'm coming up on my two year later this year, and I'm thinking about the Moto X. It seems like it's going to be skin-free, and the one that Google has the most interesting in working well (because it's their company).

I may get one if it's well designed. But I want a lot of horsepower in the chip -- that's the one thing I would have magically changed about the GNex (if I only got one thing).

Well, most expect there to be another nexus this fall. So that would be the obvious first choice for anyone that wants to stay in the nexus line

Depending on your carrier, it may not be available though. No word if it'll play nicely with CDMA.

The moto X appears to be a solid midrange phone. Its running a 1.7 GHz dual core, and early benchmarks show it coming in right around the nexus 4 (18.7k antutu), but still behind the HTC one or s4 (23-24k). If that matters to you, its something to consider.

A true Nexus will get its updates in a timely manner every new version of Android directly from Google. So, I am going to wait and see about the next true Nexus.

But I will look closely at the Moto X. So far, nothing worth reading about - but I assume there is more than what we know right now.

I'm pretty sure we know just about everything there is to know now. The only thing I haven't heard confirmation of is price. This phones had a TON of leaks because of all of its hype.

Customization options, specs, ect are all known and backed up with photos of the phone itself.

There's a local tech reporter here that went to Google a week, or maybe two, ago and was under a very strict NDA. He keeps alluding to the phone he saw, but he can't actually confirm what he did or did not see. On one of his podcasts, he keeps hinting to one of the other journalists to look into the return policy on the HTC One she just got. Because she may want to return it soon. He also said that of all the leaks, we haven't seen all that there is to see and there is something he considers important. Note, he also liked the Blackberry Playbook pre-release eval he had.

But then again, from all the leaks we have all seen about the Moto X, I am still underwhelmed.

Maybe you're right, but I don't know how there's anything else big that hasn't been leaked. There's people with the phone in hand leaking photos and specs to tech websites.

The rogers YouTube video promo that got posted early showed the always listening voice commands, and the different motions to activate the camera, ect. If there were any game changing features, you'd think it'd be promoted big time in those promos.

Then again, it could all be a part of motos plan, and they're saving the best leak for last

My Android line: Motorola Droid > Galaxy Nexus > ?

I haven't decided for sure on the Motorola X, but I am watching it with interest. I'm a little disappointed about it being a mid-range phone, but if the price is right that might encourage me.

If you're on Verizon (like me) then there's no hope in waiting on a "true" Nexus device for the time being. Our best hope comes once VoLTE is enabled and we can get a Nexus phone that runs exclusively on LTE. It might be possible for there to be such a thing in 2014, but I'm thinking it's more of a 2015 thing. That would make right about now a good time for me to upgrade.

Unless Motorola unlocks the bootloader, it could never top a Nexus device. IMO.

The Verizon version will be locked, just like every Verizon phone that they approve for their network. The Gnex was the last of symbol of freedom on Verizon.

I could've written the exact same post....but since you did it already I'll just copy yours.

I love my Nexus, bugs and all. I can't imagine going to a non-Nexus phone. I also can't imagine Verizon getting another Nexus until VoLTE becomes a reality...and maybe not even then. That said, I am watching the Moto X. I'm not due for an update until the end of the year....and since I'm grandfathered in with unlimited data I don't think I'll be upgrading anyway. But, if I do decide to "upgrade" my phone and maintain unlimited data (ie. eBay), I'd be looking for a Nexus (if there is one) or a Moto X if it turns out to be solid. I think a clean Moto phone like the X may be the next best thing to a Nexus device.

I'm watching the motox just like some/most of y'all. I was a release day galaxy nexus buyer so my upgrade is near. Im not too hot on the moto x but the functionality of it is what they're selling it off of. But what has my most interest is the LG G2....and hopefully a very similar Nexus 5... Aug 7 is the press event for the G2.

Not really.

I occasionally look at the newer GSM phones coming out and compare them to my G-Nex, but for the most part I have no serious thoughts about other phones and probably won't until my current phone is on it's deathbed.

I can surf the net with it. Works as it should.
I get my text messages with it. Works as it should.
I get and can make calls with it. Works as it should.
Tons of rom support for it. Lovin that.
I can customize it to my hearts content. Makes me all tingly inside.
Phone is still as stable and rock solid smooth as it was since the day I first turned it on.

Having said that, I cannot justify spending the cash for a new phone when the one I have works just fine.

IMO, the HTC One

I am interested in the Moto X as well, but I doubt I will get one. I just want to ride out into the sunset once my Verizon contract expires and find a cheaper carrier that actually has Nexus devices (Hello GSM providers).

I really like what I've seen so far with the Moto X, but I'm going to wait till the new Nexus phone comes out and do a comparison.

With the new Nexus 7 supporting LTE bands on a single device, I can see the same thing with the Nexus phone as well. I just hope the screen size does NOT increase in size to 5". The form factor of the GNex is the max I will go and it seems the Moto X maintains that by using a slim bezel.

Well I hope its bigger. If LG is making the next Nexus and its based on the upcoming G2, then expect a bigger screen size.

Explanation: I had briefly considered this myself, realized the S4 is far superior, then gave the subject no further consideration.

...Seriously, a lower resolution camera, lower resolution display, smaller screen, dual core, NON-REMOVABLE battery. These simply do not stack up against other available competitors and are not very appealing. I don't know about you all, but I personally expected way more from the moto x especially considering that it was this super secret project and comes in the wake of the S4 and HTC One. I realize its a mid-range phone and is being sold as such, but it just feels very anti-climactic with Google buying Motorola and all the secrecy and rumors and everything else that is going on in the world of smart phones.

I expected something amazing and instead was presented with something that seems like my Gnex (literally, it looks really similar) with an upgraded processor, camera, and more RAM... with the same display and a battery that I can't take out. Not to mention is outclassed by the competition. It's not that I think this phone is a POS, I don't, in fact if we look at the numbers it schools my Gnex, that's not what this is about. Its that I think this phone got/is getting way too much hype for being a mid range phone, when we have superior alternatives.

Interesting. If I could only get one thing from the GN, it would be a "Maxx" sized battery.

I'm also looking forward to the Moto X, but will wait a while for reviews and to see what else is in the pipeline for the year (got burned with the Bionic, previously). I'd like to see another Nexus device on VZW, but we know how that goes, plus there is also the issue of unsubsidized pricing to keep unlimited.

Thank you! You are spot on with everything you said. I don't understand the excessive hype for a mid range phone either. If you look around any Android website....people are actually going gaga for this thing. lol I understand what kind of customers Motorola is aiming for but for people to say this is the best thing ever, need to stop. Is it better than my Galaxy Nexus? Yes. Is it enough to upgrade? No. I'm looking for the Note 3 or the next Nexus.

I'm locked on Verizon (they're the only signal in town) and proudly own a Gnex. She has taken everything I've thrown at her with rare good grace... but she's aging - albeit gracefully - and is ready for a worthy successor to take her place at my side.

Considering the carrier I'm on, there is little to no chance of seeing the Nexus 5. That leaves the Moto , LG G2, and the Droid Ultras. I expect the G2 to be hopelessly locked down and the Droids to be encrypted and bloated as well. So I'll be anxious to see what the Moto X brings to the table when it's revealed Thursday.

From my perspective, it would be hard to go wrong buying it. I mean: $349 off contract for 32GB? Count me in! And if the G2 or Droids are unlockable and ROM development is strong, I'll sell the X and be out very little. Or I'll keep it and have a kick-tail phone for half the regular retail cost of a smartphone.

So yes: unless some disastrous info comes out on the Moto X, I will be packing cash when that phone hits the store. I'll be there when it opens (as I was on 12/15/11 for the Galaxy Nexus).
