Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

I recently installed CM9-20130415 on my Moto Triumph, and many things about it are wonderful.

Two main concerns come up, though:

*Camera
I understand that the front camera is currently unavailable, and I am okay with that. However, there are two things which I had questions about:
In 2.2.2, the camera had touch-to-focus, where it would focus on the area touched. Additionally, it would adjust the aperture to only let in the right amount of light. Now, my pictures tend to be bright and washed out, and it only focuses the center.
The second issue is the shutter speed: I know it wasn't instant before, but now it seems to take 3 or 4 seconds to focus and shoot from the time the shutter release is tapped.

*Speed after installing apps
Immediately after installing CM9, things were much more responsive than stock. However, after installing my commonly - used apps, it has slowed down, sometimes considerably.

I know having a bare installation on anything will always be faster than after applications are installed, but are there any thoughts on what I can do to revive it? Will moving apps to the SD card help? I've got a SanDisk Ultra class U1 32GB card.

BTW, just wanna say that unlike some users in here, CM9 has actually been HELPFUL to my battery, compared to the stock ROM! Maybe it's because I use mine differently than the average person (never cellular or 3G, sometimes WIFI, usually all radios turned off). With stock ROM, I'd get home from work with less than 50% battery life, with most of the day just idling. I went to work on Monday with 100% battery, accidentally left the phone in my desk, went back to work today (Wednesday, two days later), and upon arriving, noticed my battery only at 75%. Got home, and it was about 50%.

Is it possible to get rid of "Hangouts" or is that somehow a mandatory waste of my phone's storage space? If it can't be deleted, I'd at least like to move it to the SD card, but I can't seem to find a way to do either, and this is something I never use, so would prefer to free up space.

Delete com.google.android.talk.apk, I think is the file name. Might have a -1 at the end.

We did manage to get that off my phone. Took about four or five tries to even find a file manager that could SEE the file, plus needed to uninstall updates first.

Thanks for the info.

For future reference, I'm willing to bet that you couldn't find it because the file managers were not in "Root Explorer" mode by default. The file manager that I use ("File Manager" from Rhythm Software) DOES allow Root Explorer but you have to go into the settings menu to enable it, and the program recommends that you disable Root Explorer mode after making the desired file system changes.

Hope this info helps if you or anyone else has this situation in the future.

Apps tried included ZDBox, Titanium Backup (why he tried that, I do not know), Root Explorer, and Root Uninstaller, all running with superuser permissions. :)

I got frustrated enough when nothing (not even Apex's app manager) could even SEE the offending APK that I handed the phone over to my husband to argue with. He had as much trouble as I did before hitting the "uninstall updates first" solution, which he reports as reverting Hangouts to Talk. From there, easy enough uninstall.

[shrug] Believe what you wish to, I know what two intelligent adults personally witnessed.

To uninstall an app (even system app) with titanium backup (requires root privileges):
open ti backup
tap Backup/restore tab
scroll down to app you want to uninstall
tap app
click uninstall
done

This is what I believe, and I just uninstalled hangouts using this procedure. I don't use it either.

Make sure u use the swap phones option on vms account page.
Do not use a live rep.
Seems like they dont care if u keep it on the down low.
Heres a screenshot of my account page.
Its a used EVO 4g 3d.
This info should bump me up
to from junior to member:)

Dude, thank you for this. I just transfered my old phone to my wife as her's has a failing USB port. It went smoothly. I don't fully know why (maybe it's the geek in me), but she didn't want the Evo V. I have it listed on Ebay now. Oh well.

I don't get it at all. I had the same update installed.

edit: on further investigation, it doesn't appear to be a Ti Bu pro-only matter. I wonder if it could have been sym-linked gapps related?
I uninstalled talk because I didn't want to update to the new permissions with TI and just uninstalled it on my dev phone after updating with no issues. Both with symlinked gapps. So, it's not the gapps, you were on the right track before.

Edit: TI Pro on good phone, and straight from the play store on dev phone.

Couldn't say for sure. I think the trick is to use the online option vs. a person.

The only thing different about the post(s) above is that the phone was already on Virgin before. Plenty of people swap online and are required to change plans in order to complete the swap. I doubt many people swap to a newer model phone that happens to be "used", and MAYBE that's a new loophole that doesn't trigger the plan change requirement.

I'd love for that to be true.

Where is said thread? I could not locate it.

ok sorry guys, but i had to delete the whole thread as one of the members did not want it to be posted and thus it derailed the new thread. this is one reason why we need to stay on topic of threads. if you want to talk amongst friends that is cool, but lets create another thread for it. you can even create a watering hole (as we call them) in the android lounge for your specific phone.

anyways i hope you guys understand. let me know guys if you have any questions.

thanx,
ocnbrze

Hello. I've had problems with the MTDEV build of CM9 in the past, but the latest version seems to be going fine for me, except for one thing, the camera. I understand that with any ROM the camera will have some problems, but this is different. I had been taken pictures with the camera quite successfully, until I tried switching to the front camera to see if it works. Well, it didn't, and now neither does my camera. Whenever I try to bring it up now it just stay on a black screen and I eventually get the "Camera is not responding, would you like to force close?" message. I've tried disabling/enabling the camera in the settings, I've tried force closing it in the settings, I've tried clearing the data but nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated. In the future I'll know not to play around with stuff. Thanks!

1. Go into apps in settings
2. Go to All and find Camera
3. Force close
4. Clear data
5. Reboot
