Ehh....all gimmicks, i really feel like with the specs of the ultra, moto could have released that phone late spring/early summer to compete with the s4 and it would have done well, but now, those specs are considered standard and therefore make moto look late to the party. I'll be fine with my hd, esp if we get 4.3

My update is next January so I'm hoping some new badass phones will be released for Christmas and then go on sale. I've been loyal to Motorola since the og Droid however I'm getting tired of having a new "old spec" phone.

I am intrigued by the improvements to the camera which is supposed to vastly improve low light shots. I don't think I'd notice the difference between a 1.5Ghz CPU (as in Maxx HD) and the new 1.7 Ghz in the new Maxx. They also upped the internal memory from 1 GB to 2 GB, but I doubt I'd notice that either. Ditto the increase in battery size from 3300 mAh to 3500.

In the email I received it said the GPU was 100% faster than previous Maxx models. Is this the new screen? What is it?

Mirroring stuff on your phone to your HDTV (wirelessly) is a nice feature, esp. for watching YouTube videos and looking at photos on your phone. Now if it would work with Verizon's NFL Network...

I'm interested, but I guess it's not enough to get me to switchover from my Maxx HD.

Some people think that its not much of a upgrade from RHD but I think it is. Some of the things i like are the same things I kinda dislike.

This is what i like about the new droids. First I think the 2 gigs of ram will make a huge difference in performance. I love my RHD but it lags alot more than I would like it to and I think its because of the 1 gig of ram. Second the physical buttons and 5 inch screen means more screen realestate. At 4.7, 720p our RHD screen is beautiful so a non penTile 5 inch 720p screen should be as beautiful. Gonna have to wait on the reviews too see. I kinda like the design and the glossy back especially the red one. Now the camera, the Achilles heel of every moto phone built in the last three years looks finally ready to be a plus instead of a minus. The moto 8x processor even though its a dual core 1.7ghz S4 pro having a powerful quad core GPU and 2 other cores doing different tasks is gonna help battery life and performance.

Now what I don't like. The ultra to me seems too thin. I had the OG RAZR and I felt at times it was too thin and could have made it thicker for better battery life. The Ultra battery is smaller than the RHD which to me is a step back. They did this just for the sake of being the thinnest 4g LTE phone. The 720p res might be a problem but have to wait for the reviews first. And of course the processor dual vs quad again the reviews will tell the story.

If this phone performance and screen are good then I will be upgrading love moto radios and build quality and if the camera can compete with S4, HTC One, and the iPhone 5 then I'm in. And yea I know I could get the Maxx to solve the thinness problem but I want to get this phone for almost free the extra $100 Is not a option.

I've tried looking up info on SD storage and could not find any details but oh pictures seem to indicate no expandability. Of that is the case, it is a step back from my HD Maxx. In my book, any phone that doesn't include SD slot is not worth an "upgrade." At least until we have TONNNSS of internal storage or lightning fast cloud connections rivaling today's standards.

I've got a Razr Maxx non HD and am considering a upgrade but the new Moto's coming out are a joke IMO. No SD slot?? WTF are they thinking?!? That alone is a deal breaker for me. I need expandability. So I'm considering "upgrading" to the Maxx HD. IS it a upgrade, or should I wait till someone gets their heads out their ...... and puts out a phone with what I want????

I upgraded from the Maxx to the Maxx HD a few weeks ago...

I don't regret it....same great phone, except with a better screen, faster processor, and newer software.

I really don't see how a phone could get much better than the Maxx HD, at least not for me...If they kept it just like it is and only upgraded the chips and software I'd keep buying them.

You guys that love SD slots needs to get used to the fact that they are going away. The cloud is taking over. I used to hate no SD slot as well, but I just started using Play Music the other day. Love it. Just get a phone with 32 GB on board.

Unfortunately, you're probably correct about the SD cards going away. If they do go away, I'm afraid 32 GB will not be enough space. Typically, out of that 32 GB, there might be 28 GB free. Some games can take up to 2 GB, movies can take a lot of space, video files, music, and photos, etc. Sounds crazy but I'm sure there are power users that would run out of space. If they go to internal memory only it better be on the order of 128 GB.

Problem with no sd slot is the cloud is not reliable nor is it free. With a sd card, I have what I need onboard. With the cloud, it's who knows where and has to be acquired via over the air expense which can be quite iffy. I just won't buy another phone without sd cards unless it has a whole lotta real estate inside that doesn't cost a crapload to get. Cheaper to get the card and put it in than to pay another half the price of the fricking phone to get internal memory.

I know it seems petty, but 720p screen...already have that, dual core....already have that. Even though the buttons will actually give a bigger screen, and the phone it beautiful....i just don't see upgrading from an hd to this....especially @ full price. I'd want a 5"full HD, at least quad core and at least the same battery....i know its supposed to be quicker and more efficient, but don't backtrack on hardware!

Not all of us have unlimited data. Yep, it is bullshit that they're taking away the SD slot. And no, 32 GB (aka 20 GB) is not enough for all of my music and apps.

Interesting comparison matrix with the Droid lineup.

Moto X vs the new Droid lineup: fight!

Not sure any of them will make me switch from the RMHD, which has the battery I want/need and SD storage.

Noticed that Moto X has USB connectivity. Does that mean it can be used as mass storage device? Example--use it as a music player in your vehicle?

With my Ford vehicle having the voice controlled Sync system I really miss that functionality with the Maxx HD.

Cloud storage is no good for me. I am frequently in areas with little or no cell coverage. I usually listen to music off my phone, since I don't use my ipod anymore. Without an SD card, I probably wouldn't be able to fit it all, since I have about 15-20gb worth of music. I really hope they take that into consideration for the future, that not everyone has cell coverage all the time and can stream everything off the cloud.

yup...and not everyone has unlimited data... I only get 2gb on my company phone.. if I had to rely on cloud storage to listen to my music (which I listen to every single day) Id be screwed in no time...getting rid of sd cards is a terrible idea IMO.
